Interest on Mtn. Run (NC,SC,GA,TN)
Sunday, June 11, 2006 7:00 PM
Anyone actually!

So I wanted to see if there was any interest on a meet/Mtn. Run! Everyone on the bike boards and most of the autoX'ers know the area as the Tail of the Dragon, and I'm looking for some fellow JBO'ers to tame it with me.

Site here:
http://www.tailofthedragon.com/

The thing is, we have to schedule a good time to go (because its known to have traffic), but then we need to fit it in with everyone's schedules here. Obviously it would have to be a weekend and if anyone else knows of any good roads other than what I'm referring to then post up!

I take the vette to Tail of The Dragon sometimes. You want to go when there is not a big club event scheduled. There is alot of THP. The troopers ride the TN side hard. The NC troopers you only see occasionally or if there is a wreck. I have seen 4 wrecks up there. The tail is probably fine for cavalier speed cars. We run the 350z's and vettes on some awesome roads around Fontana Village and Fontana Dam, but they are pretty high speed runs 100+. It is alot of fun, and it would be cool to see something besides a group of Z's, vettes, minis, and miatas. Every once in a while an integra group will go up there. I'll have to watch this thread.

Well I'm starting to post this on a couple other sites, and I'll see how big I can get it. is that a good idea? I know everytime I did a Mtn Rn up in seattle I kinda lost myself and started to push it a tad bit, so alot of cars might not be a good idea! Everyone let me know input! I'm thinking somtime in late July/Aug for this to happen. Right before anyone has to go back to college and right before the true summer months are out.

And Andy, what's your guestimation of how far the entrance is into the Tail coming from lets say, Atlanta, or D&B gwinnett (whichever you're more familiar with). I know Commerce,GA is a long drive but I just need a rough idea. Where that road you're referring to (Dahlonega ---> blairsville)?

just my opinion, but i think it shouldn't be too big. due to the fact i may not want to get behind any site seer's(sp) if i'm wanting to run the tail of the dragon. i'd be there to test the road, my car, as well as myself.

late july would be the best for me. the baby is due on sept. 29th and i dont' need to be too far as clock counts down.

accordding to the tail's web site it's about a 3 hour (150 miles)drive from the ATL to the beginning of the tail(318 turns in 11 miles). the road i'm referring to is about 20 mins north of gainesville and is about as intense as people claims the tail to be. it's a 35 mile run which it at about a hour long. this is the section of 129 that most of the IA "mountain runs" are ran.

Yea I feel ya on that. Mostly every run we've had we told the guys that if your car isn't capable or if they aren't capable, just be ready to line up at the end. We've had pretty bad fights from actual nicely tuned cars trying to get around Mt. St. Helens fast and your occasional heated springs bouncy civic holding them up.

But I'm down for your little highway Andy. Sounds as good and is much closer to us than N.C! I wouldn't see the problem in the more southern guys take your run, and the N.C/VA guys take the T.O.D run, and we all jump on here and share pics that night or next morning to compare.

T.o.d is about 1.5 hours from chattanooga I believe. I always start on the TN side. It starts out down by the lake. T.o.d. is fun, but the roads from Deals GAP to Fontana are alot more fun (plus you can get great pictures from the dam). They have more speed, less cops and less traffic. There are still plenty of sharp turns. I was just up there 3 weeks ago. We had a 350Z flip onto its roof, and a 300z go off into a reveen. Last year the 350z behind me went off an embankment. Everyone was okay, but still, it is a good idea to know your car. I know the road pretty well. Howerver, I really don't know the cavy, I will gladly stay towards the back of the line

BAHHH, I don't know where to start lmao! I deffinately want to get some good pictures in since I have the camera now.

I might have to hit just about every road there is this summer just to get the full effect.
