Hi im planning on shaving the cylinder head but one problem i run into is that the timing would be retarded. what can i do to get the proper timing with the cylinder head being shaved
what motor do you have?
if LD9... from my findings going all the way to .037 only effects cam timing 1/2 of a degree. but to answer ur question... mcmonie's adjustable cam gear setup or re drill a set of stockers.
depends on how much you're shaving off. the safe range for the 2.4 (im just guessing from youre reg.) is .020" off. anything more than that will mess with the timing too much for the stock stuff. anything less than that is perfectly fine. the head im using currently was shaved ~ .010" and i didnt have to mess with the timing at all. everything lined up perfectly. if you're having it cut more than that you can probably counter it with a thicker head gasket, but that would negate any compression gains. or do what Zyaaa said and buy a set of Mcmonie's adj. cam gears (which are very expensive, but if needed very worth it)

You could run the thicker cometic mls head gasket. I think its .074 thick compared to the stocker which is .046 iirc.
wasn't aware of this for the 2.4 but i believe the proper term is decking the head?? lol
decking... machining...surfacing.
all relative!
Theres math that you could do to determine how much it changes. But in all honesty its retarding the timing which is just going to move the power band up a bit.
