yes but it wont help your traction, the hotter the street tire the worse the traction. you'd have to effectively keep the tire cooler for a hard compound. They get greasy as they heat up, where as radials and slicks operate the opposite. your arguing something as stupid as this thread. regardless if you are racing on a street compound tire street compound tire without tread it sucks, and will have zero traction with any decent amount of power.
why cant just someone say, damn phil that was a great answer and you are right? I am and thats that
if you could turn a street tire into a slick why are we all not buying 50$ tires and doing burnouts for a while to have "slicks?" because we don't it's as stupid a theory as this tread was

uck down to bald are gods gift to drag racing. were simply saying that its debatable that because they are completely treadless (much like a drag slick) they have more contact patch grabbing the pavement and that in itself makes it better or equal to (certainly not worse) a brand new tire with thick treads.
yes, you are right. that slicks are the best. but thats it.

Because you all have not learned the trick of SNOW TIRES yet.
It will come, in time.
Also, your "explanation" for rubber compound is great, if you were only looking at the demographic of under a "T" speed rating. For instance, BFG Traction T\A's do not behave this way, Nor do Gforece or Potenzas.

i was just arguing for somthing to do and then had to go to work but all i was saying is that a bald street tire vs a newer street tire what is going to have more traction on a dry sticky surface?
Also you guys are forgetting a bald street tire 99% of the time is an old street tire. An old street tire is ashard as a hockey puck and wont stick for crap no matter how much or how little tread there is.
Snow tires are a softer compound compared to regular street tires cause there is less wear on them driving on snow. Guys use those on the track in the lower classes cause they stick amazing but are wore down to slicks after about 3 races and then guess what, they replace them cause they dont stick after that.
Why are we talking about tires anyways?
Because the 3800 swap is a good idea and he see's that now.
