That is actually not true.

That is actually not true.
care to elaborate as to how?
the more contact area touching the road surface the better. just as mike stated. he did say DRY surface as well.

i would belive it has alot to do with compound.
Yes slicks and radials have a far softer compound then street tires which increases their grip. The hard coumpiund of street tires utilizes tread for grip without it they just spins because the compound is harder. Thus less grippy itself

I have to agree with this. On the Z before I got my rims I had really bald tires on the rear and the same brand/make of tire on the front with about 70% tread life. The 70%s kinda spun on a hard take off so I decided to swap fronts and rears and the bald tires spun a lot and smoked really easy. This was on a dry paved road too.

That is pretty much it right there.

I remember when I thought this as well though..
"but if you're sitting there with an LD9 and you're sick of spinning rod bearings" or if you already have an eco and you are sick of yanking cylinder liners.......
I can bash the Eco just as bad as you Eco guys like to bash the Quad/LD9. I have seen far to many Ecos fail compared to Quad/TC's to even think of what you are saying as reasonably predictable.

so your saying the "Tread" itself its a different compound rubber than... the rubber that remains after the 'tread' is warn off? that correct?
i dont think so....

no numb nuts. i said that the harder compound needs the tread for traction the super hard compound slick is to hard to grip the ashphalt as a slick. think of bowling ball and rubber ball which grips easier?
dont play stupid brad i know you better then that

i thought this was about v6 swaps????since then racing challenges, tire tread, and every opinion in the world have been voiced..... what happened?

please explain to me how tread on DRY pavement makes any hill of beans of difference than if it was just a smooth surface USING ThE SAME COMPOUND...
please?

I don't think so....
Actually, If you have ever warn tires down below the wear indicators... there is a "second" ply of harder rubber under it.. then the cords......

oil pumps, timing chains.... (we had one last month that ripped the chain in half... a 06 Z body {Malibu}) liners....
Moving on.
In retrospect after what, 12 pages, I think it can be concluded that with the L67 swap the owner will get...
* Lots of time working on the car
* A car that will run in the 14's with no engine mods, pending its tuned correctly
* win the "shock and awe" award
* suffer from torque steer.

Chris dont forget they would beat the socks out of the 14.2 1/4 mile times the s/c slowbalt put down, but ya much better motor then eco, seeing as how no internals and 14....hmmmm sounds good to me

The only reason this dose not make sense to you is because you don't want it too.

no i just would like a straight answer other than "it is this way".
sorry, i just have a hard time BELIEVING tires' road rubber tread or otherwise are two DIFFERENT kinds.
show me proof, that is all i ask.

street tires - hard compund, which equals less traction but much higher mileage
radials - softer compound more grip lesslife
slicks - very soft compound only used on tracks
whats so hard to understand?
LE61T PTE6262 Powered
Do you think that slicks are the same compound as street tires??
W T F phil?? i am not talking about the difference in tires. i KNOW the difference in compouds between drag radials slicks and street tires. DUh. no wonder you all think im being retarded. you do not understand what im even trying to get at.
the way i read your very first post was that the STREET tire (not radial or slick) had a different (harder) compoud below the actual tread on the STREET tire (not radial or slick) and thats how you were claiming a completely flat STREET tire (not radial or slick) would actually have worse traction than one than a brand new treaded STREET tire (NOT RADIAL OR SLICK).

PFFT secret cams?! pm me if you want a real upgrade.
the 'ply" is meant to reinforce the tire, not to be driven on, but you "can"... the rubber between the cotten\Rayon\polyester or Kevlar is thin.... and usually harder then the tread compound....

To answer directly, IF your past the wear indicators, BUT not to the second ply of rubber, one COULD argue that you have, effectively, a "slick" of the normal tire compound.
Help any?
