alright here it goes, from looking at the eagle rod website and some other forums/engine spec sheets it looks like the dodge neon (420A) connecting rod is really close to something we could use, there are two different variations a regular rod and a long rod so i need to find one of each of these to try some new tricky stuff with
the big end is a little smaller than a ln2 but the crank could be machined for it
the small end is bigger than ln2 stock but a tad smaller then the pin in my ross pistons
short rod length is 5.472
long rod length is 5.608(very close to ln2)
so again i need one of these rods to see if it will work, the long rod especially
thanks for any help i can get.
might even see if i can find a 5.7-5.9" rod and move the pin up in the piston to increase velocity. which would help these n/a motors out tremendously
are you talkin the single cam neon? if so my friend may have a stock rod layin around if that will help?
ya single cam like what came in the eclipses as well, if you could get your hands on one it would be awesome
wait a minuet.... so your idea is to try to use rods that aren't the right length, don't have the right rod bearing bore, don't have the right piston pin bore, and you haven't even looked at the width to see if they will fit between the counterweights with the right clearance...
that sounds like a great idea so far

You're right, he should swap an ECO

Bob, have you looked into slowolej's I-6 rod possibility?

no he shouldn't, he just buy an eco car get a better motor and newer everything
not sure why your trying to turn this into an eco vs LN2 but ok
darkstars, you probably havnt read my previous posts, i run a asphalt stock car we have an 8v flat tappet motor rule, the ln2 is my only option with the cavalier chassis.
you can look through at the previous motor experiments i have tried, they either work or throw the rods out the block, but we do have a 200 whp n/a ln2
i looked at slowjoels idea briefly but it looked liek the main bearing was to big
my ross pistons have a .830 pin, dodge rods are .826
rod journal in ln2 is 1.99, the dodge is 1.97 it would be easy to turn a crank .020
the length is within .015
actually I did read it, trading in cars was a joke for the guy who thinks this thread or my first reply has anything to do with an Eco
good thing hes not asking about swapping in the 420a engine then

why you gotta be like that?

actually the neon motor came in sohc and dohc versions they use the same rods

like what?
the OP said said for his class of racing he can't use a DOHC engine. And nowhere does he say he wants to swap in a whole 420a engine or any other DOHC. Maybe I'm missing something but I'm not seeing why hes pointing out that its a DOHC engine, that has nothing to do with anything
Well maybe if you didn't enter this thread being so critical (Sarcastic or not), and like you're so against LN2s, we wouldn't be so defensive & ganging-up on you. And why are you on this thread, anyway? Take-off, hoser!
Go beyond the "bolt-on".
