Car Starts Itself!?!?!?!? NEED HELP!!!!!
Friday, July 11, 2008 10:26 PM
Today I moved my battery FROM my trunk to the engine bay. Everything goes smoothly and I am finnishing up by connecting the negative cable to the battery. When I try to connect the negative cable sparks fly and the motor tries to start. Key is not even in the car. Positive cable is going from the bat to the starter and the other small cable goes to the fuse box. The negative I never removed, it goes from the negative connector to the battery tray and then to the trans. I didn't mess with anything else. Am I missing something small and stupid? Thanks for any help, I need the car tomorrow.

The + cable should go to the starter solenoid not the starter.

Time to sound like a newb (cause am). Not sure what the starter soleniod is, I put it on the top stud on what thought was the starter, under the intake mani. It is where I had the positive cable when the bat was in the trunk.

Skwirl - I am way from the car at the moment but I will check the wiring when I get back to the car. So something might me touching something and creating a power loop?

Thanks for the quick responses.

figured it out, the power for my subs had rotated over on the stud and was touching the smaller stud with the single red wire, starter signal wire? The car runs fine now, knew it was something stupid. Thanks for the quick responses.

When things go wonky, it's always something stupid!

Go beyond the "bolt-on".

That seems to be the law when doing car stuff yourself with a timeline.

Thanks again everyone.
