Ok, ive looked around and search, but found nothing really. I was thinking about buying a 97 cavi that has a 2.2 OHV engine in it. Are these good engines to build.. I mean, can you get some good power out of them? Also, I thought about maybe a 2.2 eco swap and a 5 speed swap along with it... how hard would that be? Has anyone done it? Thanks, sorry, new to the newer cavis lol, any help would be greatly appriciated! Thanks!

how much money you willing to spend?
Ill spend quite a bit on it... i want to make it into a show car... id like the build the OHV if they can be made decently quick anyway... 2.2 eco would be nice.. just depends on HP from engine to engine and cost.. in the motor alone.. id be okay with spending about $1000-$1500 maybe..

no ones ever done it ... im sure its impossible ..
Ok. Also, I saw somewhere that it was possable to swap in a 2.4 quad cam motor? How hard is that swap? Thanks.

a 2.4 would probaly be a little easier since it came in the j-body that year. but id go with the 2.2 eco.
how to swap one in has been posted, search for it

Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!
You have not searched good enough. There is many post on this. This has been done many times now. To do a 2.2 Ecotec swap into a pre 2000 car is some work, lots of wiring has to be changed out. If you go to the third gen forum there is a post with about all the info you need.

just put a turbo on your 2200 ohv.
searched and all i could find was a 2.2L eco swap how to for 2000-2002 cavis...are they the same?

an ecotec engine is going to cost you 1500. are you sure you want to get involved with a eco swap?you only have 1000-1500 to spend?
well, my friend has an eco motor/trans he said he would sell me for $300.. but, im just not sure if i want to get into all that.... how much power have people been getting out of the 2.2 OHV engines? I thought about just building it... or a 2.4 quad cam would be nice... engine swap just depends on the ammount of work to me... if i can get some pretty good power from a 2.2 OHV, ill build it, but if there is a significant difference between a built 2.2 OHV and a built 2.4 quad cam, i would rather swap... Thanks!

it's a twin cam not a quad cam.
it's only got 2 cams not four!
well, the 2.4 is a real nice motor. it would have more power than a built ohv
If you want the most bang for your buck then put a 2.3 HO in there
How hard is it to swap that in? Thanks.

There is post on this site for pre 2000 cars, you might be looking at topics, but not reading. You can get a parts car for about $800-1500. We never spent more than $1200 for a complete car with all the parts for the swap. Last one was $800. It really is not that hard. Most of it is swapping parts. The hardest part being welding mounts in if you do a 5 speed swap.
