cavfan ran like 13.9 his build wasn't as fancy as your 2.6l

maybe he had weight reduction or drag radials.

he DID have radials, not too mention he has years more experience drag racing than me...he has good suspension, 13 year old suspension, he has a short throw, i dont...he has higher compression..i seem to have blow by......well see what happens once i get some more experience and a few other "track mods"

Taking 3rd to 98-102 is great, but the car really need to get VE tuned...

Flat Top pistons, GM W41 cams (New), 086 head.... thats about all... with a tune i have no doubt it is in the 13's...

but then again, i don't know if it will see the track with only 100 KPA at WOT....

Can I join in on the 2.6 build?

I know my engine (2.2 ecotec) is a bit different but heres what im thinkin. 2.2 puts out about 140hp 150tq, 2.4 puts out about 160hp 160tq, thats about 20hp 10tq differance, lets just say i bult a 2.5L ecotec (cough cough) and i gain lets say 25hp and maybe 15tq, that should put me um 225whp+ and 165tq+ ?

Yes i know i will not be in 2.2L Ecotec NA class anymore

I guess i had no real reason for this post, just to let you all know that i am watching and listening

Ben....ya know that was a thought i looked into before i built what i did...a stroked eco!...i wanted the 98mm stroke of the 2.4vvt ..but after researching i couldnt find a good reason to stroke the 2.2 when i could just use the 2.4 to begin with..i mean, what would be the benefit of interchanging the parts rather than just using the 2.4vvt? the reason the 2.6 stroker is nice is because your taking a LIGHTER crank with a longer stroke and putting it in a block with a considerably larger cylinder bore, therefore getting the best of both worlds.....also the quad actually has a timing chain - to - belt conversion available...takes a CONSIDERABLE amount of wait off the drivetrain...but it didnt work out..cant get it in a Jbody..only Nbody ....sucks
you should come down to the lone star bash this year id like to see what YOU could do in my car

HOLY F on the lenght of the header :o

1 - great lookin tubes

2 - did you work with anyone on the tuning of these monsters?
2a - mine is a step header that has only 7.5" of 1 3/4 and 7.5" of 1 7/8, its tuned for 9500 rpm peak, yes i know im not there yet, someday i will be (cough cough 2009)

3 - i spent about $650 just in stuff ( tubing flange collector )

just wondering

yes..worked with someone on the header..and mostly tried to clone the header already available for the quad4..since it wont fit the Jbody engine bay..so i tried to copy sizes and lengths..but i still think my final product was better
as far as price my FINAL cost ..after material..additional labor AND ceramic coating ran me about a grand - $1,000 ...soon as winter comes(and i can FIND a larger TB) ill have her re dynoed and see how well it worked out..ill keep ya posted..
glad you liked the header though..nice to hear from someone that does such nice work

wait.. scott, you havent dynoed WITH the header yet?

oh my...

oh my indeed...

and ben, you sneaky SOB, just let the cat out of the bag!

no..i havnt dynoed WITH the header yet...all dynoes ive posted have been with the HO exhaust manifold...the header is still on and holding up well...i need to redo my cat back and find a bigger throttle, nothing HUGE..just a bit larger, like 58 or 60mm...i think ive gotten far enough to actually benefit from it

say one wanted that header... do i go through you for it??? i could handle 1k for it this winter...

Re: The 2.6L stroker LIVES !
Sunday, August 31, 2008 7:20 PM
well heres the thing...first you wanting THAT header? as in for a quad4? ...or for ld9?
second..i would need a car with no exhaust to fit it....dont mean to sound lazy BUT that header has to be installed with the subframe OFF the car...i have to drop the control arms.subframe.and steering rack in order to install it from the bottom...so id have to take mine OUT just to be able to start fabbing up a new one.....
sorry but i dont think i want my car down for that long again..but for a grand there SHOULD be someone near you that would be willing to do it??

it'd be for my 97z, planning on 086 head.

couldnt you just go through the same process you did to make yours? or did they need the car etc?

id really like to have one and well... i doubt anyone around here could make one THAT nice.

Re: The 2.6L stroker LIVES !

would have to go thru the same process since the original is IN the car and no jig was made to reproduce it...no one liked the price tag..but yea we would need the car to make it..the header was made IN the car pipe by pipe till it was finished, and believe me..it is NOT easy getting those 4 tubes to fit thru that little ass hole in the subframe
