Data loggin shows bad O2?
Sunday, April 06, 2008 12:34 AM
I got a diagnostic tool and all and found im really havin a problem with my 1* O2 sensor heres the graph

RED= 1*, BLUE= 2*

This is at idle and 1* is pretty much the same while driving and its a new snesor, the second one ive put in so im guessin its the header or cat is clogged and something is not flowing right past the 1*, but could I get away with using a O2 sim at 1*?

Ok so why do you think something is wrong with the first O2 sensor? No you can not use a sim. Are you getting a code?

Both those look very normal actually, the second o2 doesn't oscillate like the first one (hence why you can't use the same sensor in both places). Its also very hard to determine how its working unless you show some other sensors, like TPS, MAP, and RPM.

Im getting lots of surging, and ive changed plugs, vacuum lines, o2, map, icm, coil, boot springs and i cant get it to stop my rpms jump like this too, but ill get a more log pics of everything and post it all up and see if anyone can help me out with this

whats wrong with it? the data log looks normal to me..for a narrowband stock 02...now if it was a wideband something would look wrong but its a stock 02 so i wouldnt even be concerned......you cant tune by using your stock 02 sensors for datalogging....go get a wideband then get back with us

Like the others have said, those results look pretty normal for the o2 sensor. If you have no vaccum leaks, then surging at idle could be the result of a faulty IAC. You might want to check that.

"Youth in Asia"...I don't see anything wrong with that.

be more specific about the surging...when and how

its constant from start to stop, but it surges more when im on the gas, from a cold start its worse. ive used a multi meter to test the IAC befor, but ill try the data log with that and see what comes up

Surging has nothing to do with the O2 sensor. Take it to someone.

from the graph the sensor seems to be switching ok, a little choppy but not bad. You can try to test the reaction time of the sensor, just hook up you datalogging software and manually drive the car lean be creating a vacuum leak (us the brake booster line) and then drive the car rich (i use a quick shoot of propane) and watch your graph to find out how fast the sensor is reacting.

have you tried driving with the 02 sensor unplugged yet ?

ok heres timing(red) vs. rpm(blue)

and fuel trim for the heck of it, short(blue), long(red)

and you all were right its not the O2, i tried the tool on another car and got same readings.

so ill mess with IAC tape it to an open grill for a while and see what i get and ill try unplugin the O2 for the heack of it and see what happens

thanx for the help

i say unplug the o2 cus if you have any other brand besides acdelco 02 then it needs to come out..whether its reading right or not

its an acdelco, but i decided to use 93 octane today on the way to work and after a while the surging seemed to stop, but then i blew the sucky weld job midas did on the header to cat, ill see what hapens at cold start and but ill be gettin my new magnaflow cat and 2.25 pipes put on this weekend

I'd pull and clean or replace the iac. It's in the throttlebody held in by two t20 torx bits. Look for damage to the sensor and clean with a good tb cleaner (not carbcleaner). The sensor you were talking about taping to the grill is the iat sensor. It only measures the temperature of incoming air.
