I need help
Monday, March 10, 2008 8:29 AM
I know this isn't the place for introductions. just figured I might get away with two birds with one stone. I'm in the army curentally serving in Iraq, I have a wife and 6 month old daughter back home, been gone for just shy of 6 months. but enough about me, on to the reason for the post.
I'm sure someone has already asked a question like this, and I'm sure I will be told, but I just spent the last hour and a half looking through forums and can't seem to find what I'm looking for.
I'm not new to the tuner world, just the domestic tuner world. I can find you anything you need for a "ricer" but can't find a few simple bolt ons for my 1999 Oldsmobile Alero Sedan, its got the 2.4L LD9 in it. I'm just wondering if anyone can give me a list of a few sites I could check out?
I just want the basics for right now, Intake, Exhaust, Headers, you know the stuff I can do in less than 2 hours. thanks for all of your time.

www.carcustoms.net, jbodysource.com, turbotechracing.com would be good places to start. Just search for parts from the same year J body and you'll be fine.

Even summitracing.com has a make and model search which will bring up a lot of parts too.

So I found a intake I will probably get, now I'm wondering, since you say "parts from the same year J body" does that meen manifolds and the cat back or should I try to find alero specific for that?
I know it seems like a lot of work to do anything to this car but I just really want to use a platform thats not commenly modified. Its a new found hobby, after helping a buddy make a daewoo do a 13sec 1/4

I got my Jbo start while in Iraq too, lol. That was '06-'07 though. Glad to have you.

Im sure the exhaust is ran different than a J, so yes, you will have to have platform specific for those type things.

I feel for you as I have a '99 S-10 with a LN2, so I'm in the same boat as the following describes:

The Alero is something of an odd-body to most aftermarket suppliers, in that it may have the same engine as found in cars that are more popular to build-up but it includes certain intricatcies that don't allow for all you may find for the same engine in another app to be used (Header, air-inlet tract). But don't worry, as most of the internal stuff you may find can still be used. As for tuners, well... that may be another story.

Go beyond the "bolt-on".

So I got a few things, pace setter headers and a cat-back exhaust. all so some light weight and underdrive pullys. I'm looking for a good set of cams, can anyone help me out, and I got some stuff for the inside. I don't know if anyone would look, but after I get it all installed I'm going to take some pics, and I might have to post. I all so got some "asthetic" goodies.
I was looking at some stuff and apparentally the alero was a N-platform for GM but many places list it as a J, can anyone tell me which it is?
