02 Sensor help & 02 sensor Myth True/False?

Hey,

Can't find the right 02 sensor for my 2002 ECO Cav. Autozone and Napa both have given me the wrong part for the Bank 1 Sensor 1 02 sensor (before the CAT). I believe its a 4 prong plug, but has male and female connections ( two prongs and two spaces for prongs to fit into). Does anyone know which is the correct part please??? Now for the Myth part...02 sensor light comes on and off lately, so finally when its on I get the code and its the 02 sensor, however my car has not been "pulling" like it usually can ever since the code started to appear. I feel a loss of power, to the point where I replaced the spark plugs (which helped a lot) but the car still seems sluggish. So we all know when the check engine light is on, the car doesn't run right, but with a sensor going out even though the light goes off, is the car always going to run like crap regardless because the ECU is still not mixing air and fuel correctly because the 02 sensor is bad? I know its needs to be replaced, but clearing the code doesn't help my car to run any better it seems. I hope this makes sense. Any input definitely appreciated

Thanks

when your O2 sensor starts to go, the car will tend to run rich on its own. when the car doesnt get a good signal from the O2 sensor, it will tend to add more fuel to be on the saf side. having your AFR off can lead to a loss of power. get the sensor replaced, and it should help alot to ensure yur car is running right.

Here is the thing just because the CEL is on does not mean your car will run bad as you say. A bad O2 sensor will cause bad fuel mileage in normal driving, but the O2 sensor does not affect WOT performance. The ECU does not use the O2 sensor for WOT performance.

Doesn't the MAP change with a CEL on specially if the code has to do with air/fuel? I figured I was running more lean not rich like whitegoose said, but I don't know enough to say for sure. I have cleared codes to do with O2 sensors and always notice better improvement, the exhaust note is even different at higher rpms. So bad fuel mieage would mean i'm running rich? I thought the ECU also interprets the 02 sensor's signal to keep the MAP at its right air/fuel mixture.

No.
The ECu uses the O2 sensor to get a idea (not exact) air/fuel readings for normal driving (closed loop operation). Under performance, or WOT the car is in Open loop which does not use the O2 sensor's. Fueling is done by MAP readings. A change in how the car is running with bad O2 sensor's for sure, bad gas mileage for sure. Once you go full throttle (or a certain throttle percentage) the car goes into open loop and runs off preset settings in the ECU.

John,

Not that I don't believe you man, but there's got to be some connection with a bad 02 sensor specially bank 1 that screws the car's optimum driving conditions. I also really need to know where to get the right 02 sensor, anyone???

john is correct....the 02 does not affect WOT performance...when your pcm reads a perticular MAP reading / TPS reading it tends to run directly off the VE tables in the pcm programing...a bad 02 only affects normal driving which will kill your gas milage..and if its bad it doesnt matter if the light is on or NOT..the sensor is still bad and sending false readings..get the thing changed

GO to the dealer and get the correct O2 sensor, or GMpartsdirect.
