I ask this question cause i need to see what the ohv can do like what i have to do to the bottem in and the top in of the 2.2 ohv cause honestly i want to make around 250whp and i wanna see what other people have as guide well more of hope creating faith cause iam starting to lose faith cause am hearing nothing but negative feed back on the ohv i mean is it even possible to create that much whp if so and i know this may sound newbish can you please please give me the steps and dont tell me about money i clearly understand the more money you have the more you can do i just need the step please
We've got one member trying for 300hp on stock bottom end, 250hp is proven. It's mostly just a matter of turbocharging it.

Alder has like 275ish,Anything is possible just means more money I have 2200 and am trying to decide what to do engine wise
Ok rob um what do you mean by a matter of turbo chargeing if on stock internals the 2.2 2200 puts out with turbo and intercooler was 170 whp so with that said what can i do to reach the check point that is 250whp what has to change from the engine top end or the bottom end of engine and i remember have this convo with you rob you always been a great help and pete what are you aiming for engine wise just want to know
If you use a big enough turbo to move enough air and have the extra fuel needed for a safe AFR then you can hit 250whp with a turbo 2.2. Hoever the deck is stacked against you when building a 2.2 ohv. You would be much better off to leave the 2.2 turd be and turbo a different engine if you want 250whp

FORGET GIRLS GONE WILD WE HAVE GOVERNMENT SPENDING GONE WILD!
i have the hardest time find a z24 engine i even went to chevy the dealership to see if they have the engine and the said they discontinued it and i was so heated about it and will that engine mat on to the same tranny i have its a manual 01 cavy see it gettin to the point that i might just trade it in for the ss colbalt let me know somethin !
if you have any 01 just switch to the eco. far cheaper than the 2.4 used and larger aftermarket parts.
im hopin 2 break 300 if not ill throw a 75 shot of nos with the 18psi and see how many runs i get out of it
MadJack wrote:The LN2 isn't the turd that some say it is. It takes a little more knowledge and patience to build than the other motors. Those of us who have the most knowledge are those of us who've worked on/built OHV motors, such as V8s. Patence, because there is very little after-market support for them and there wont be a whole lot to come, since it's a discontinued design. It does use alot of valve train parts from (or parts similar to) the Small Block Chevy.
250 whp is definitely possible, but will require a turbo and atleast a top end build (P&P, valve train upgrades, over sized valves). If you do your research you'll see it can be done.
Thank you ,I have 2200 yeah obviusly its no ecotec and that's the easy answer everyone says but really its a pain in the ass swap pre 2000 If you work full time and etc requires lotsa time and money really build a spare engine bit by bit is more easy for some people
If theres one good thing about the newb threads like this, its that I see a lot more interest in the OHV then when some of us started several years ago into their projects
can't be all negative!
Mad Jack is the way to go when customizing top ends. But it's all about money. Check out mantapart.com, J-Tunners.com, these companies specialize in forged and ported ohv parts. Most of us ohv owners usually have to customize everything by hand, since the aftermarket companies dont sell much for us. There are headers and intakes on ebay and that about it (that might work), but 200 whp can be possible without turbo. You can throw in a blazer fuel pump, top fed injector conversion w/ford red tops, increase fuel presure w/ an after market FPR, port the head and intake manifold, install headers, crane valve lifters, smaller drive pulley, Rk sport engine mounts, centerforce clutch and a lighter fly wheel, magnacor spark pulg wires, MSD coil packs, bosch platinum 4's, 93 OHV's oil pump, etc.., the list could go on. Boost will definately help, but remember increase fuel pressure.
Yeah, these are all the things I'm working towards aswell. I have the whole top end done. I had all the valve work, porting, polishing, and intake. I just need to get more fuel and later on I'm going to let a local machine shop take the motor as far as it can go. Full out sleeving the block, oversized pistons, H-Rods, I have a new oil pump, and next will be upgrading the fuel system. I don't expect much untill I see what I already have. I just finished my low budget/just get that damn thing together, motor swap. I had to replace my whole block. it busted an ear off where the tranny meets the block, plus the bottom end let loose. So we got a junkyard motor and slammed all my top end mods. Check It Out its a thread call "Finally its done! engine swap/minor engine build." Let me know what you think...

MadJack put it pretty well, you're going to need headwork. Have the ports bored out 1 to 2mm and get a polish done. I'd personally recommend having a new intake manifold fabbed (each port bigger there as well) and then grind the block to match.

Lets just say that 250 whp
is possible on a stock bottom end... While I am inthe middle of a 400+ hp LN2 build, I am still going for 300whp on the stock bottom end. I have almost attained that goal, but blew a rear main seal and smoked the clutch.... When Spring time/warmer weather gets here, we will see if it will hold....

P&P Tuning
420.5whp / 359.8wtq
I think the real question that no one has asked is how much $ do you want to spend to get 250whp? I mean honestly that is the true defining factor on this topic.
If money is no object than go all out and do what some of us "pioneers" did and build the LN2. Is it as rewarding knowing for less money you could build another engine? No probably not but it sure is rewarding knowing that people told you that you can not make power on this engine. And then when you do the laughter stops and the respect begins.
Remember when everybody had to do a B16 or B18 swap in there civic and then every cavalier owner wanted the Z24 in there engine bay so we could sport them Fancy DOHC badges LOL
Thank you all for your information i will put all of it to good use and thanks you guys are amazing
All you need for 250whp is a run-of-the-mill 60-trim turbo kit and TUNING. No need to open the engine up for that...
