Finally its Done! engine swap/minor build w/pics!

Like I stated the old junker motor is finally put back together and running beautifully! The only thing I noticed about the new block being that it was from an automatic is that its pretty hesitant till you get it up to 2k then I just zips up the RPM range in a hurry... Well here's the pics... I'll try to keep them in order... Hope you like my dad and my own handywork...

These are the worn out rod bearings I replaced with some Clevite 77's.

This is a new oil pump, slightly better than stock volume and pressure wise.

This is after putting in the new rod bearings.

Just the block and timing set-up.

Pics of my head, it has been shaved, ported, polished, and the valves had a 3-angle grind as well as valve springs replaced and shimmed.

All done ready to be dropped in!

One final touch, My dad's idea. Cates Auto Performance

My Dad, being dad..."That's just too damn small... I bet I could fit a 305 in there..."

Ohh! Almost there!

Finally all through... The only thing I forgot to get a pic of was my Pacesetter Header... But I'm sure that shouldn't matter too much...

it's purdyis it fast?
unless you boost it it's still not going to be fast. Nice job though.

Thanx for that, I wasn't meaning for it to be too fast... I have popped the speedo though... It just takes awhile to get it going past 120... As far as power I'm just curious and might try taking it to a dyno one day...

I do not really understand this comment. The block being from a auto is not going to affect how it performs. Auto and manual motors (of the same motor design) are built the same.

I'm not trying to be a dick (honestly) but wtf......... are you talking MPH?

Unless you have your speed limiter bypassed or turned off (not gunna say how).... there is no way that car will go over 108mph.....

I disabled the limiter on my 2nd gen Sunbird (2.0L OHC 5-speed).... and it maxed out at almost exactly 120mph....... so how are you getting much past that.

That motor does look good though.... it's kinda funny how it looks better out of the car since you can see the entire thing that way.

Still my cav is governed at 180 kmh ?I'm guessing if he put that much work into it he disabled it

Its clean I guess.....

How is your intake performing with it mounted right next to the header there? You are supposed to AVOID the hottest part of your engine bay.

Looks nice work is kinda weird for intake but keep up good work

Canada???

Doubt it...

Far from Canada.. So out of curiosity... How is this thing "popping" the speedo and going over 120 again??

whats the mild build? Melling high flo oil pump, cometic HG? ... other wise everything else looked stock to me.

Purdy paint tho.

The intake was just the cheapest universal one I could find but so far its doing ok... The car has some wiring issues so the speed limiter was as far as I know taken off... as far as the rev limiter last I knew when it was totally stock it had worked but after the work I had done to my head along with the intake and headers I seemed to over rev with no reaction from the limiter.. not sure what went on there... ohh and as far as the intake being in a hot place in the bay, another wiring issues is that my electric fan used to not kick in at all, so we wired it to run all the time with the key on... That about sums it up I guess...

What I had meant is that well the motor I had before was instantaneous as far as response goes. this one takes a little while before it will just wrap up and take off... I guess it could be that the piston rings only have a couple miles on them... I dunno it still needs to be broke in. About 500 miles or so and it should be good for an oil change and some harder driving.

Oh and I had the speedo at 120 Mph, in 4th gear....but I think my speedo might be about 5mph off, like i think 60 is 55, last i heard it was only 2mph off.. so who knows how fast I can get this thing to go...

It looks like you went to town spaying everything on the outside in the 4th pic. LOL Seriosly you need to move that intake. Such a shame IMO to do all that work to take out a 2.2turd and then put it right back in. Engine swap for the win!
