2.4 and cams....
Friday, February 08, 2008 2:12 PM
there are a couple different variations that a person can run ie

secret
ho
w41
custom

and so on

just wondering between the ho and the w41 cams which might be the better route to go. even mixing them up ie w41 intake ho exhaust and such is possible as well.

a couple suggestions i got was full w41 with the exhaust cam retarded 2*

i will admit i dont fully understand how degreeing cams works to the full extent of maximizing gains

another suggestion was w41 intake and ho exhaust

opinions?

The stock flow numbers on Quad 4 and LD9 heads are a bit skewed. The intake side flows significantly better than the exhuast in comparison to other 4 cyl engines that have an exhaust flow closer to the intake flow (i.e. DSM and GSR heads). If you were going to do a mix and match, I would do a HO intake and W41 exhaust. Otherwise, I would just stick with HO or just w41 cams.

Is this going to be on the supercharged engine? If so I stick with straight up slutty HO cams.

I don't know wich cams would work best for you but the idea behind degreeing the cams a little (retarding the intake and advancing the exaust) is to get a little more overlap in there wich helps performance a bit.

Overlap = when the exaust valves start to open before the intake valves are fully closed...... which help with exaust scavenging and increses performance,

... OR on a boosted Application, coses the charged air to be pushed out the open exhaust valves......

the theory behind this for a NA build, is to "pull" intake air into the cyl, and ALMOST out the exhaust, but the "door" valve closes right before any intake air can get out.

it can work for a boosted appt, but must be test and tuned for best results.

i would try to find true cam timing if i where really trying to mess with it.
