TB bar idea...

I have been weary of posting this question because I will probably get flamed, but I have read back in an old post titled "throttle body poll" of a guy that grinded down a couple mm off of the top and bottom of the bar that holds the tb plate on and then smoothing it out to increase airflow.

it would only give more airflow at wot because of how the plate opens, so it shouldn't hut daily driving correct?. Any ideas or opionons on this I may or may not try it just trying to get some different opinions.

Another thought is that since the ecotec tb is already what? almost 58mm? then grinding 2mm off each side might be close to having a 60mm tb? from what I have read they don't really need any larger than that anyways if your only doing minor mods.

extra bonus... its free

opinions... thoughts please

The effects would be minimal to none..
It wouldn't even be worth going through the trouble of doing such a mod.
Unless you're pulling huge amounts of horsepower with ungodly amounts of airflow, wouldn't worry about it.
Also, shaving the bar won't give you a 60mm throttlebody as it's measured from edge to edge.
So in effect, it's still 58mm throttlebody.

No, it wouldn't make it a 60mm TB, but the availible airflow cross-section would still increase and help in the same manner...

Yeah, I knew it would still be a 58mm TB but I figured the increase in airflow would be close to a 60 mm tb, that is what I was trying to say.

If it only gained 3 hp, I think it would still be worth it if there was no loss in the low end. It is free afterall, compared to what like $250 for a bored tb? I have heard some say its not worth getting a larger tb and some say it is, again this is different because it only increases air intake at wot.

Do those who say its not worth it say that because tb's are so expensive, or because there really is no gain whatsoever?

Well, I guess since no one else has any input I might as well try it, I don't really see it hurting anything, maybe I'll get as apare tb just in case... time to go to some junkyards
