Im looking at different exhuast for the 98+ 2.4 and the costs of the magnaflow, thermal, etc are way more than I want to spend. I know they are good quality but the price isnt worth such a simple part. I would have a shop make mandrel bend piping but theres not really any good exhuast shops by me.
Now I was comparing some of the cheaper kits and was wondering everyones feedback on them. Such as the jegs, pacesetter, and some ebay kits. I know alot of people would say these kits are crap but Id go with a better muffler like a dynomax superturbo or something, but is the piping good? Their all mandrel bent so I dont see any other problems other than the mufflers.
I found this exhuast on ebay, come new kit. Doesnt look too bad but Id still go with a better muffler: 300073659554
Anyone have any input or any experience with any of these theyd like to share? Sorry if these seem like newb questions but I searched and couldnt really find any good comparisons of the cheaper kits; and most people just say go with a magnaflow kit or something similiar.
Thanks...and any pics of any of these setups would help
Hey, you have a couple of choices the way i see it. Either you can go with an ebay exhaust and worry about the quality and fitment or you can go with the pacesetter you mentioned (which everyone hates, but i have it and it sounds great on my car), or you can go to a shop and get compression bends (or try to piece together the right tubing from different sites online), and add in your own cat and resonator and muffler. Compression bends arent terrible for your car and unless youre running a boosted application they arent going to hurt performance any.
In my honest opinion i think the best set up for you would be a custom job. That way you know exactly what you are buying and you can pick and choose the parts/sizes that you want, just make sure you do all the research before you buy. Im not exactly sure what your problem is with the exhaust shops around you so if you have a big problem with them, other than not being able to/being good at mandrel bending, then i would suggest pacesetter from my own personal experience.
Just curious, what sized piping are you considering running?
Good luck
I bought my exhaust from ebay, it's a N1 style or so it said. Didnt fit right at first wen i put it on so i took it off and me n my dad cut off about 2-3 inches off the pipe so it can fit right. And also the hanger poles didnt match up so we also had to get a universal hanger for it.
this is after me n my dad fixed my exhaust...we didnt have nething to hold up the muffler so it's not entirely under the lil hole by the bumper but its under...its also better than before cuz before it looked very tacky....looked like it was hanging n I hated it.
All in all, I'd rather get a custom job since U get to pick ur own parts (muffler, cat, etc.) and the piping can fit RIGHT. Like everyone says, U get wat U pay for...I paid for cheap ebay exhaust, i got cheap ebay exhaust...sounds good tho to me, low growl not high pitch like honda's but noticeable wen u rev the engine.

I see a cool-air intake
It's got a NOS-fogger system and a T-4 turbo
I see an A.I.C. controller
It has direct port nitrous injection
Yeah, a stand-alone fuel management system
...Not a bad way to spend $10,000
Not to thread jack but man I would have bought new tires over the exhaust^^^^^^, For the exhaust you are prolly better off to get a custom one made at a shop. I got a Megan Racing catback and the fitment was horrible. I'm still not happy with it. more than likely i'm gonna sell the rear section of it and get a new one made thats got a dynomax super turbo muffler instead of the N1 style fart can lol.

Yea I need new tires lol thats a recent pic tho, I got my exhaust last year in July...back wen I had good tires on it.

I was planning on using 2.25 in piping;and i just wanted to get a catback for now. Ill worry about a cat later on when I get a header. How is the quality of the piping and muffler on your ebay kit? Do you think it is cheap quality and will rust out or anything?
My friend has on 02 ls sport and he had a local shop make him an exhuast and he used a magnaflow muffler; they charged him like $200 and I think they used compression bends, but they just welded it to the the cat and didnt make a flange which I didnt like. Ill keep doing a lil research.
Does anyone have a part number for the dynomax super turbo most people use?
hey if your intrested i have a dual Magnaflow exhuast off my 02 cavi... i have it ready to bolt up with hangers.. you would just need to get the header back... i have a 2 1/2 flowmaster now..PM me and I'll send a pic
get a shop to custom make the exhaust piping and buy a dynomax super turbo muffler. its $40, great quality, great flow rates (better than flowmaster) and sounds great.
I want to share something with you - the three sentences that will get you through life. Number one, 'cover for me', Number two, 'oh, good idea, boss', Number three, 'it was like that when I got here.'
Got a part number for the dynomax superturbo? What do most of you guys go with? Id go with 2.25 but in the future I plan on getting the roots style sc

The quality aint that bad, wen I had bolted it on I thought it was gonna be loud as hell but it wasnt which was good. As for the rust, its only been almost 6 months since i've put it on n no rust yet...juss dirty from all teh driving I do lol. Only thing that sucked was that it didnt come with a gasket so I had to get my own...which wasnt alot.

If that is your only concern (the flange), then just take them a flange or ask them specifically to weld in a flange.
Thanks man.
And yea I know I could just ask them to make a flange for me,not sure how much extra they would charge; they seem to charge alot for extra little stuff. I dont really like the people that work there. I had them put on my slp catback on my grand am cause the bolts had to be drilled out and all, I asked them to just clamp it and not weld it... Then when I went to pick up the car they welded it on and welded my tips on backwards...idiots. I just said screw it though cuz I had to go to work and I just wanted to drive it.
The part numer I was lookin at for the dynomax muffler was WLK-17731, it's a 2.25" offset in/ center out,

i had the same problem, wanted a cool exhaust but no money... I really wanted a dual tho, and it had to be magnaflow. I can't afford a 800 dollar exhaust, so i went on ebay, found some guy selling brand new, original magnaflow round style mufflers (yes, they're real), and looked in the classifieds, and found some guy selling 2.5" mandrel bent U bends about 5 miles from my house. went and got a "universal" cat (test pipe with o2 bung), and some flanges. Busted out the chop saw, and welder, and started piecing it together. I did it all the way, header back. After all was done, I gave it to my buddy to tig weld it all together. Looks great, all mandrel bent, magnaflow mufflers, unbelievable great fitment. I'd build my own if I was you .
I think it is always best to do a custom job. Buy the muffler you want and go to a exhaust shop (look around, and talk to other car people, to see who they recommend). I did that. I have changed my exhaust set-up (in size) many times, and still with everything only have about $450 invested in all of that and the changes. That includes my header also.
FU Tuning
I def dont like dual exhuast on a cavy, specialy not some big fart cans out the back. I just want something thats not too loud and raspy and has a small stockish looking tip.
Ill check the shops around, which there arent many of. If I find a decent price Ill go with 2.25" with a super turbo muffler, and if its too loud Ill just get some kind of bullet muffler for a res. If I cant find anything good at the shops I might get a pacesetter catback or the jegs piping and get a better muffler/tip that I like.
