I have a 1997 Chevy Cavalier, recently I brought it into the shop for a wheel barring problem, when i got it back the Mechanic told me that it has a bad case of Rod Knock.
My question is, IF ( and its a big IF!) i can find a 1997 Ecotec engine, can i replace the engine with that or will i need to replace more that that?
Right now i have just the standard 1997 2.2 Liter 4 Cylinder engine in it. But i would like to switch it to the Ecotec 2.2Liter Is this possible??
I dont know much about engines, so if this is a dumb question i'm sorry. I just need some help.

must be a typo. the 2.2 ecotec came out in the J in 2002.

yes it is. you need the engine, tranny, wiring harness. best thing to do is get a rear ended cav or fire and get everything from the firewall to the front of the car

Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!
Acually on the 95-99 cars we need the entire body harness as well as gas tank and fuel lines and all that jazz..not as easy like the 2000 up im in the proess of doing it right now..phil
As stated you need the complete wiring to put a Ecotec into your car. I have done this swap a few times. If you find a donor car it is not a bad swap. When getting parts here and there it can get a little costly.
