Question for the L67 guyz.
Thursday, December 14, 2006 8:45 PM
Well I'm nearing the time to start stripping my '99 Z24 of its perfectly fine running 2.4 and 5speed tranny in favour of the 3.8s/c motor and the new style getrag tranny. I was lucky enough to find a L67 and getrag from a local wreckers for a total of $1000. I know I need the cluster and a nightmare load of wiring plus to start beefing up a custom cradle and motor mounts and what not. I figure since I'm going to be running a bigger motor should I grab a rad and condensor from a v6 donor car? Also does anyone know if the compressor from my 2.4 is similar to the 3.8 or should I grab a compressor to?, And if the guy on here from, I think St. Thomas is on here I was wondering if I could come check out your setup to get some ideas. I was at the track the day you shot all that nitrous through the poor white Sunfire GT and grenaded her half way down the track lmao. That was awsome. I work with a Grand Prix guy at the Brian Finch Pontiac dealership in London and he said you are a buddy of Osman. Isaak i think it is? Well thanks for the ideas or help in advance, bye.

Raven is a difficult guy to get a hold of... you can try the others tho... Me, Isaak, 3800Cavalier, etc... most of us post on www.motorswap.org in the J-body Think Tank... also www.3800pro.com...

I'm going to be using the A/C compressor from the L67 motor, but clocked 90 degrees so I can use the stock J-body A/C hoses. You'll see what I mean when you get to that point

Thanks Lenko. Did you also use the rad ans condensor from the v6 car though? I figure I might as well keep it as cool as possible because mins going to have stage three zzp heads and a ported superchager and im going to get my buds grand prix NIC cam miked and have a custom grind done since they quit making that cam due to tuning difficulty. Thanks for the note on what im going to have to do about the compressor. ttyl bye.

Nope... rad from the Park Ave is way too huge to fit in the J-car... I'm using the stock 5-speed rad, adding a separate trans cooler for the auto, as I'm using the 4T65E-HD that came attached to the motor. I have no desire to deal with a 5 speed in Vancouver traffic anymore....

Other than the compressor... I'm using the entire stock J-car A/C system. Lines and all. The Park Ave stuff wouldn't fit where it needs to go on my car.

I've got a bunch of mods to go on it... but I'm trying to get the motor in the car and running before I bother messing around with stuff. I've got a DHP Powrtuner ready to go.. W-body store PEM's.. colder plugs.. I've got a line on a Gen V M90 s/c from a Series III motor... wheee

Hey John, What all has to be done to get the 4t65e-hd in the J-body? I think the ol' isuzu 5psd really disagrees with my 3400 even. So I wanted a little upgrade... and I like the trans in my GTP, so I figured it would be a good choice.

Physically mounting it... then running the PCM it came with

I'll let you know when I actually get the f'n thing mounted in my car... right now, I'm still trying to finish welding the front subframe together... I don't have a welder at home yet

Wow where do I start.............

Ya I`m Isaak and I grenaded that poor Sunfire at the track with a 100 shot this past summer, but she loved it

My motor is in but still far from done, I still have cooling system, oil system and fuel system to redo, plus a 4 disc brake system to slap on. Wiring harness I am getting made by DoubleZ (Brad) and you can also get a hold of Raven for any specific questions as far as this swap goes, I am still knee deep in it but it should be running by early summer (I hope).

As far as what you need help with, let me know, I had a buddy of mine build the subframe but it was by far not a simple task and not cheap either (well it was for me but wont be for any others, he cursed and swore at me a few times haha)

Oh and as far as the AC Condensor goes, can't help you, I am building this car to be a weekend warrior, not a DD so I won`t be needing the necessity of AC, thats what my 2 windows and sunroof are for I am going with the same delete pulley Raven is using, off a Ford truck
