motor swap time
Wednesday, December 13, 2006 5:34 PM
Hello, i have a 95 sunfire auto and was wondering since my last step in my car is to build or swap a motor, what years and sizes could i swap to?? and what all would i have to replace? i know ecu's and harnesses, more concerned about trannys, i have also heard that the 2.2 2200's are strong, all i want to do is boost about 6 or 8 psi max, i have 65k on the motor and no issues.
thanks in advance

You don't want the 2.2 / 2200 at all. Not strong at all, something around 110 stock HP.

Well it really depends on what you want. What will the car be used for? What kind of money are you looking to spend. What kind of power do you want. How do you want that power?

about 2 grand on a motor, just looking to boost like 6 or 8 psi driven about 1000 miles to shows a year. might just be trailered this year to shows.

honestly i would say turbo the motor you have if you are looking for show more than go. who wants to see a show car with an engine compartment you could have had stock in a different trim package of the same car.

i think he wa refering to strength to lating long and holding up well. not how much horsepower

lol.. that was funny..

last i looked the 2200 was one of the most reliable engines... they take a beating and then some...

for reliability and strength go 2200... it will gett to around 235-250 hp... which is plenty for me...

but if your going performance crazy, i say go 2.2 ecotec. i dont suggest the 2.4 just cause the availability is low.

but if your also shooting for cheapest motor go 2200, i can buy a whole motor here head, block, the works, with only 54,000 miles on it for 350 dollars... for that price you could have 3-4 laying around.

i think at 6-8 lbs of boost if done right it would be near or over 180 hp. it would definitely look and perform much better.

JTuners was up over 200 to the wheels on 8psi IIRC

JTuners had 18X hp to the wheels, which equates to around 200 at the flywheel. I cry everytime I visit their website and see that awesome turbo header and cannot buy it unless four other people do...
