Third Gen TB size?
Tuesday, December 12, 2006 10:18 AM
Yo...I searched throught the Performance FAQ and saw that the author considered the following years part of these generations of the j:

3rd Generation: 1995-present
2nd Generation: 1988-1994
1st Generation: 1983-1987

Then I searched and found this post as to what size the Third Gen TB are based on motor size:

2.2L 52mm
2.4L 52mm
2.3L 56mm
Ecotec 2.2L 58mm

My question is this:

The author explaining the size of the TB says they are for the THIRD GEN motors was this a typo or what? ARE ALL 2.3 QUADS 56MM?

I wanna bore my stocker out to 56mm and get a butterfly from one of the previous years cause I can't find anyplace that will make a new one but I'm not sure which year Quads will yeild the correct size and the guy at the junk yard is hassling me about not wasting his time unless I know exactly what I want.

The following is an excerpt I found on the JBO and these are the cars I would be looking at:

Biggest waste of time and money. All Quad 4's (2.3L) have a 56mm TB. Just swap the whole 2.3L TB.

ThanX....I'll just ask him for the cheapest one. I've already got a second stocker so I wanted to bore it and use that one instead of making the 2.3 fit.

I forgot to mention that you will need the throttle bracket from a 95' J-body quad4. Or else, you can do like I did and just modify the throttle bracket that comes with the 2.3L throttle body to accomidate the longer throttle cable that your car has.

ok...went to the junk yard today (first time! lol) and got a tb from a 93 acheiva s series....$32

now i've just gotta get the thing bored to 56 yea i know just putting the 2.3 tb on as is would be cheaper but i don't want to....easier to just bolt up a modified stocker with no modification....but thanX for the help anyway B

I just reused my stock bracket with no hitches, and have functional Cruise.
