Ok so hears the story. I bought a obx header that was brand new in the box with a gasket. So I took the old one out of the car(it was nasty) and go on with putting the new header on. I get it on and start it up and what do you know a leak. So I tighten the collector bolts and nothing happened. So I took it off and noticed a leak at port one. So I went today and bought a fel pro gasket and put it on. Still leaking bad but now on the other side next to the egr tube. So I take it off a third time and put some silicone on it and it reduced it alot but still there. It sounds like a lawn mower. So I was thinking about replacing it one more time and using permatex this time. Alos I tightened the bolts in the order that chilton told me and did it from 90-110-120. Do you think the header is warped? What do you think I should do I am lost

if its leaking at the block and manifold contact make sure that the block and header are both clean adn free of debris. and if that all checks out mayb the header is warped, but if permatex will b able to withstand the heat then use that.
Not sure on the year of yours, but do you have an EGR valve? If yours is a 2000-2002, you will need the right exhaust manifold gasket to block off the EGR port. Double check that, as I didn't realize it until I had it installed, and the EGR port on the head was leaking on the head by the PS reservoir.
true i didnt even think of the egr as i dont have erg. nice catch sonic
Its a 97 sunfire gt. Yeah I bought the right gasket just dont know why it wont seal. It is leaking at the block and the header. I think that permatex should solve the problem but I dont want a temp fix. If you can think of anything else ler me know. Another think when it was leaking the first time it was on the opposite side of the header. Should I double up on gaskets?

EGR is gay anyways. just get rid of it. >
Doubling up on gaskets wont hurt.. my 2200 came doubled up from the factory.
maybe you just got a bad heat bent flange. because if it is heated it can shink at the spot.
I would just use the factory metal gasket. I have always used those over the crappy ones that came with any header.
FU Tuning
run a flat file accross the flange and make sure its flat
ok I can do that but I think that the permatex will take care of the problem and if it does not I will buy the factory gasket and try to seal it that way. I will let you guyes know in a couple hours if it works. Also should I wait an hour after install to let the permatex set up or does it not madder.

the best curing method I've found is to let the car idle about 15-20min after its done....

Built, bottled, ready for 11s. 14.446@93.74mph, 1.848 60' N/A.
DONT USE FEL-PRO GASKETS. I bought a stock fel-pro gasket and put it on like most of the other threds tell you to do but they dont work. The area where the egr is on the stock manifold is one piece making the port on 4 cyclinder one hole thing. the header is opposite that is what that tube is for to not take away for the flowing area of port 4. So i o put the obx gakets back on with some permatex and its awsome

try to tighten all equal...my last one I swapped out I tightened it from left to right and had a BAD leak kind of like your lawnmower... the next time I put it back on I tightened all bolts equal all the way around and leak was gone, same gasket too... btw.

Um, i used a Felpro metal gasket, been on since March, and no leaks ever. Make sure you put the bolts on the correct order too. I also have a 98 Sunfire GT with the DCSport 4-2-1 Header. That gasket in your photos however is not the same Felpro gasket I bought. The one i put on looked like the stock metal one. It looked just like this
