So i did a brief search and didnt come up with much.. But has anyone considered dropping an SRT-4 motor and tranny into one of our cars.. Im sure someone has thought of it im just curious on what you guy's idea is on it.. I used to own a SRT-4 but rolled it into a ditch.. LOL!! Now i know a guy that has a wrecked one with a good motor and tranny like 15k miles.. Any opinions or ideas would be a help since im deciding if i want to buy the motor or not..
Thanks,
Justin

yes lsot of people have. but they never do it for a variety of reasons. you can put a turbo on an eco and get more power.
besides, why would you want a Dodge motor in your car?

i think the question here is WHY NOT?
its like some older guy asking you, why would you wanna put nitrous on a grocery getter? i think the answer from you should be obvious with the times you have posted, right?
its not like a car needs a motor from the SAME manufacturer to actually run.
v-8s go into rx-7s all the time
engines arent manufacturer specific. dont see why everyone still has this "name brand" stigma.
turbo on an ecotec is not a dominant answer, getting more power is ONLY gonna be relevant to how well the motor is built. else all the ecotec owners wouldnt be blowing engines and matt wouldnt be so concerned with the new upgraded ecotec comming out with stronger parts in stock form.
unless its happened has anyone with an eco built a stronger engine than mike karas? 410 whp? i can google srt-4 and 400+, 450 hp, and quite a few results come up. have many here surpased 400 hp yet?
look at the specs....from the factory, a boosted version of each motor???
supercharged ecotec 205 to the wheels has dynoed as high as 215 to the wheels.
srt-4 rated at 215, but actually being dynoed at near 240 to the wheels. and then with the computer, which will be needed, it has factory upgrade options for the boost in stages 2-3 and maybe 4.
sure it will be a decent amount ot of work, engine mounts, wiring, etc. but for a car that half the people sweat parts that are JDM and were on toyotas' the ability to stuff a different engine in there shows originality of sorts....
someone will either have to have knowledge higher than the avg person on here who cant find a common answer when three posts are directly in front of em, or it shows someone has the money to finally get it done.
i'm not pro srt-4, but for an engine with all the factory support the ecotec has and only a few 200- and 300hp engines have been built, and the engine has been out since 2002, its not as if the ecotec is the end all engine for sport compacts. i doubt any engine is.
ive seen the srt-4 pull low 12's in the 1/4 mile witha stage 2 turbo and other bolt ons. I think the powerplant is a good setup. who knows if you can get a neon subframe you might be able to do some measureing and fab the entire thing in. Would definatley be fun to drive. The two cars weigh about the same dont they.

It won't be the engine to end all engin but it is to this generation what the 350 was back then.

thats questionable.... i'll say YES AND NO to that....
if you mean generation as in GM SPORT COMPACT, then yea probably.
if you mean generation of all people and cars....def NO.
maybe to the gm sport compact group, but there are plenty of engines from other car manufacturers out there that are drool worthy.
to start the sr20det
the ka24 which i believe is found in the s2000 or rsx...
then you have the ecotec (none of these are in any order by the way)
or the VQ35 which is in ALOT of vehicles, very similar distribution like the 2.2 base ecotec...
there are plenty of strong and versatile engines out there.
the only problem is, in most name brand circles the majority of people only focus on "what came in my car"
many in the tuner world spend very little time learning about engines they dont encounter daily or weekly.
now we all know the ecotec is doing VERY well in NHRA drag.....
but not really anyone here is REALISTICALLY laying down money for those parts or tuning. when was the last time you saw someone on here push 1000hp and run a gm forged crank on here?? or even fewer....500hp from an AVERAGE non company backed person on JBO or cobalt SS.
i'm sure there are a small small handful here and there, some who may not even post, but on the whole, most people are in a range that anyone with any engine can achieve. if one wanted to do something different, myself, i encourage it.
i dont keep up with all the forums, but an example is a guy in the boost forum i believe, that TWIN CHARGED his j-body. the normal questioning is WHY? a single turbo can do the job, a single supercharger can do the job. his dyno numbers were not anything huge and dominating....
but like he said, he wanted to do it, simply to do it.
stuff like that, i simply find a higher level of appreciation and respect for people who not necessarily do stuff for attention, but forge on to do things that arent commonly done. whether its appereance, performance, or otherwise.
