2.4L Performance Cams
Friday, July 28, 2006 7:24 PM
I did a search for 2.4 cams and scanned threw it and i couldn't find my answer and i read the sticky and kinda got confused. Where is a good place to get new cams for a 2.4. I searched on jbodyperforance.com but couldn't find them. Probly looking in wrong spot..

Can anyone give me links so i can learn and understand the main purpose of them and what they do.

Is rksport cams any good?

Thanks for the info.

I got the Stage2 Cams. I love them and how they sound. They gave a very definite HP boost. I can't tell you how much I got from them. I just know that I accidentally spun my tires slightly by accident while shifting into second gear. And I have NEVER done that accidentally. I won't be able to give a number on them though. My engine is gonna be close to a 2.8L. I got pistons from Karo that are .040 overbore. So with that much of a jump in cubic inches I won't really be able to tell.

^^ are you on a n/a set up or are you boosted?

I'm N/A. I got money invested in my header so if I do boost it'll be a super charger.

.040 over will still make it a 2.4...

I got Karo's drag rods. And the pistons I got from him as well. They are Weisco with larger wrist pins. And yes I'm having they cylinders shaved at an engine shop. He's boring the cylinders for $8 a cylinder. The guy does work suprisingly cheap. I'm figuring that it'll be less than $400 for him to install bronze valve guides, bore the cylinders, put in the head and main studs (just to save us a little time), install the bearings and all the other lower end stuff. Although I gotta fork out $170 for a crank kit. Better than buying a new crank. The crank in the engine has a few pits on the one journal. I can't use the crank from my other engine cause that one threw a rod!!!

Hey Todd are you aware that a brand new std/std crank is available from GMPartsDirect.com for $187?
I know cause I just brought one for my turbo engine buildup, it was $228 shipped to my front door, so you might want to consider that as opposed to paying $170 for a used one.

2000 Z24 5spd header & catback for now.

Damn too bad that crank kit has already been ordered. There's a pit onn the one journal of the crank I have. How that's fixed is that the crank gets poilished and then you use larger bearings to make up for the grinding down. I'm not directly paying $170 for a used one but yes I'm paying that to have it fixed.

You mean to tell me that when you remove material from the piston walls you don't increase the the volumentricity ( spelling or word?!?!). When removing material from inside and engine you do not raise it's displacement? or stuff with all of the technical words. I'm just being too lazy to research the material I would need to FLAME you!!!!

OK, so the stock bore and stroke of a LD9 is 3.543" x 3.701", or 90mm x 94mm, yielding a volume of 598cc per cylinder or 2392cc total.

If you bore the cylinders by .040", that will increase the bore to 3.583", or 91mm. This will yield a volume of 611.4cc per cylinder, or 2445.6cc total.

You, my friend, will still have a 2.4L motor. The only way you're getting 2.8L in that car is to replace that LD9 with a 2nd gen V6.

If I was to get stock size pistons (Weisco) Would I notice a big performance increase.. I want to get all new internals from the pistons up but want to do it without bringing it to a machine shop... Would I notice a performance increase?
