Obviously going to be a track-only car. With that in mind... keep at it!!

Nice work!
yeah, I hope you don't plan on getting it inspected with all that metal bracing cut out
dont worry chris, I know places where I can get it inspected in nys! Woot Woot!
track only, pretty much, just some driving here and there on the street, not much tho.

Or just look on the performance forum page. A guy is making crank and alternator pulleys that are stock size but about half the weight. The GB should be up in a few days. Looks good man, keep it up.

When did the ward let you go? lol You sir are nuts! I am getting a headache just by looking at all of this (taking 2 aspirins).
Good thing it will be a track only, because all that bracing off and driving it on the streets is a big no-no.
Good luck on the progress, keep us updated, because all this is interesting to watch.

karo had c/f doors and a fiberglass trunk lid also , i think his was in the 2000-2100 range
im not sure if he ever got the weight after it was done
and i know centerline around 14lbs , and motegi around 14.5 for the 17x8 ,have really light wheels , and there are several others out there that are close
as far as the stock fenders vs c/f or glass , keep in mind the stock 1's are light to begin with , plus you want to keep some weight over the front tires for traction
and the lighter the back end gets the less suspension mods your gonna need out back

Since you don't have a sound sytem (except for road noise and exhaust) and you are getting rid of all the other electrical stuff you woun't have a charging problem with the reduced size pulley. As for the battery go with the lighter battery and mount it in the right rear next to the whell well, to help with the weight balancefront to rear and side to side.

The weight of the engine and transmission is more than enough weight for the front. That would be true for a drag car, but he wants to AutoX, so the Front to Rear balane is more important. The F/R weight ratio is so far off in a FWD car any weight loss on the front is critical to the balance of the car.
If you get a hold of a plasma cutter... be careful... youll find yourself cutting way more stuff than you planned to like i did

congratulations ur creating the most unsafe car to be driven, id like to see the after pics when u lose it on a track or something, its not worth ur life to be .0004 seconds faster, unless ur doing like a 30 point cage into the trunk and forward

Scott, while scud here is being a little bit sarcastic, he does have a good point... if you're going to gut the doors, you really SHOULD do a cage.
Also, if you plan on SCCA racing, better forget the nitrous... i don't think there's a single SCCA event or class that allows nitrous. Not that I've ever heard of anyway, but on the same note, i don't exactly study SCCA rulebooks. Which leads to my next point... If you plan on racing SCCA, you had better get a rulebook and make sure that you your mods aren't going to disqualify you, or put you in a class that you can't possibly win.

i love it lol. To bad ur not closer.. I'd be over there taking most the interior panels off ur hands.
Not removing the speakers? I still see the rear speakers in one of your pics.
Good luck with everything man. Don't forget to post your times and maybe even weigh some of these parts for future knowledge.
Just be careful though, with all that stuff gone if something happens it gonna be like you were in a peice of tin foil.

Ah! Its nce to be back, after getting off my banning..... damn mods and their double standards.... anyway...
I also just got back from the CT dyno meet, black ops stole the show with an unsafe really lean 243hp, stock everything on 8 lbs!
MadJack - honestly, my buddy has a neon which he bought fiberglass fenders for and I compaired weight, and it seems that they are just about the same, I really couldn't justify spending the money.
MRMEANR Racing - I've been on ebay all afternoon lookin for a decently priced plasma cutter that will run on 110vac MUAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!
Scarab & sarcastically scudz24 - I totally agree, there is nothing I would like more than to put 6 point roll cage in when its all said and done. I know of a shop in NY that can take care of that for me and I do mean to bring it there once I get it all said and done. I also emailed nopi about the doors cause i didn't find them on their website. But if I can't get them, then i think I am going to gut the doors and weld them to the body, that should stiffen up the body significantly.
Manta Z - if you wanna come out here, you can have it all, u name a fair price and its all urs. I just dont wanna ship anything. Seats, door panels, rear panels, head liner, take it all
Chuck Norris Approved Evil Cav - HAHAHAHAHA!!!! Dude, you totally caught me out! I am an audiophile till the day I die, and its gonna kill me to take out all ways of listening to music. Give me time, for I am weak....
ECOTEC - this definately isn't going to be driven on the road much at all, so I really am trying to lower my ability to get into one of those situations.
I am goin with Pete 98redcavz24 into the city to drop off his motor tomorrow, so I will be goin to get the lexan on monday and I'll see how things go from there. I'm really excited, but I wish I had a plasma cutter.... any leads? 1300 is way to expensive!

Next stage up and goin!

Now you see it...

Now you don't! Takin everything out that weighs, damn supercharger weighs a ton, gotta get rid of it, yeah right! Had to be able to get to other parts of the car and havin the runners tapped for direct port! wOOt! wOOt!

Missing anything? Am I gonna need that pulley delete? Probably, aren't I! Anyone know the gm part number for it?

There it is! Right where its supposed to be, off the car and not causin anymore weight!

What the hell is this thing, why does it have vacuum lines comin off it and what is that thing with the green top on it and where does it go? Anyone?

Notice anything else gone? Not just the supercharger and A/C?

Anything at all?
Heres a hint! Its the cause of alot of my aggrivation and an untapped source for weight reduction... well no, not really

Damn faulty wiring harness, blowin 2 ECU's on me! I kick you and I feel better!

Do I really need to keep the hood down? Damn, it, alright, its goin back on.... unless someone else has any better ideas, and no, I don't mean hood pins Jim!

Just a couple random pics of the wiring harness and supercharger before they meet the dumpster, STUPID PIECE OF SHOE! No... not really...
Seriously, tho, I need the part number for the pulley delete for the 2.4, also need to kno if anyone has any ideas about if I can latch the hood without using that huge brick of a thing, and think of a way I can put in lexan windows, still have the ability to remove them with gutted doors. I have an idea, but cant find the parts necessary, so I guess my idea is out the door. carbonfiber doors are a little out of my pricerange, thinking about the fiberglass doors tho, but not now. My wifey would kill me, she already thinks I am nuts!
HAHAHA!!! One last thing, I work for a Sports Medicine facility in Avon, CT. And the APRN and I were talkin about racing, she said its not a real sport cause you don't sweat. I was like, "yea, sure, cause race cars have air conditioning..." She looked at me with the most perplexed look and said, "They don't???"
I just thought that was funny as hell, I busted out laughin and she walked away still perplexed.

That thing with the vacuum lines and green top is part of your emissions system, keep it in if you need to pass...
You should make an aluminum bracket to hold the hood latch, and rivet it to the stock mount and front bumper.

better a delay than a disaster.
As far as the windows, you can use camlocs to keep them in place and still be removable. And why wouldnt you wanna use hood pins?

Hood pins are far safer at retaining the hood than the stock latching mechanisim. There are more than just the hair pin style, to include locking systems, if that is what youre worried about
yeah, I am definately worried about the hood coming loose and flying up. I have heard one to many horror stories about hood pins coming loose.
MADJACK - what are the other systems you are talking about? Can you send me some links maybe? thanks

hmmm, i've used pins on all my race cars and even on my old street car, never had a problem with them comming "loose" one of my cars has had hoodpins on it for 6years now and nothing, so to me its either someone that didnt install them right, or they're cheap pins, or they're neglected.
