So my cat plugged on my '02 Cavi yesterday, I decided to cut it out but wound up running a 2.5" side exit system with a 30" glasspack. I forgot to weld the bung for my rear O2 sensor back in so its completely unhooked. I drove the car for 3 hours and still have yet to get a CEL. Anyone ever tried this? The only problem with this system is that unless I drive really nice I have a feeling I'm going to get nailed by the cops.
the code will set , give it a day or 2 for the pcm to run the cat check
then BAM , the code will appear
sad fact of life
Figured but the weird thing is it still hasn't even though I reset the computer before i even started.(actually had it disconnected during welding) If the light does come on i have the O2 and bung to weld in anyway, along with the anti foulers. The car definitly runs alot better though.
cool
sounds like you got it settled , for the future
it'll set in, mine took 300miles before it set a code....

My cat plugged on my 2000 Z24 so I just emptied all the honeycomb out (Im going 3" for my turbo soon) It was almost 500 miles before my light came on. Just FYI.
STREET ANTIX, it's coming...
how did you turn it off??
It did set the code this morning. The appearent cause of the cat plugging is also getting worse. It will be idling and get to near where the fan should come on(once in awhile sooner) and the idle will drop off, almost quit then rev back up. It will do it a bit, smooth out then be fine for a bit, the length of time varies. It kept doing this today, now at higher rpms. It managed to stall 3 times in about 5 min in a McDonalds drive thru, the once I tried pumping the gas and all that did was cause it to let out one heck of a backfire. Any ideas here? So once I get this fixed I'm doing a bit of paint work and this car is gone, nothing should have as many problems as this car with only 85,000Km.
Yeah, once your cat starts to plug up, it's all downhill. And thats the only directions you'll be driving too lol. Mine started by not going over 3500 RPM on tuesday afternoon then 3000 that night then right to 2000 the next morning which is when I emptied the thing. It wouldn't go up hills and bogged out if I stepped on the gas, also ran hotter. If your gonna get rid of the car just buy a universal cat and weld it in yourself. A dealer wants like $550 to do it.

BAM, LMAO. Might be cuz I just got off 3rd shift but it made me laugh.
Everyone needs HPTuners; can't wait for mine!

Naw, the cat has nothing to do with this prob, it was doing it at that time but is getting worse even without the cat, problem is you can't actually tell ahead of time when its going to do it. I'm going out to weld the factory exhaust back on minus the cat(replaced with a resonator from a Caravan) so that I can actually think then probly start checking wiring.

Does it do it when the car is warming up from being cold? If so this is a common thing when you have a free flowing exhaust. The O2 sensor (first one) is not warm enough when the car switches to closed loop (or open loop), I always mix to 2 up.
FU Tuning
Rarely, usually, when I take off from work like an idiot, then drop right off the gas, it won't idle for about 3 blocks, other then that its fine cold. It did do this exact thing when it was kind of half wamed up(if that makes sense) right when I started it, reved up, almost quit, caught itself, almost quit, caught, then stalled. Every time it does quit it always fires right up like nothing is wrong.
