exhaust sound

i think this belongs here if not please move.

this is the muffler i have now ...http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/shopexd.asp?zone=main&id=803

idk if i like it. I love magnaflows products and i dont want to buy the catback system. everyone says they are quieter and if i get a new muffler i will make my own catback system. I dont know what to get. If any one could help me that would be great... and i would prefer it to be muffler and tip all included.

i don't quite know what your trying to ask but just get a muffler and take it to a shop to have a cumtom catback made.

i dont know if it's the way you type or if im just sleepy from reading so much on this site but im still confused as to your particular question.
just keeping the same muffler and changing the piping (im assuming you'd get a 2 1/4 on the catback) will make it sound smoother and a little loudeer. if you just want to make it quiter get a larger muffler. that is a 5' 14" long muffler. pretty damn small. try just gettinga 5x8 in more like a 18 inch size. remember the larger the muff the quiter it'll be. Thats y a lot of people use the word ricer, cause most people put on round mufflers like yours and they are too small hence they are loud and raspy.
I had a 5x8x14magnaflow on my dodge truck with header back exhaust and let me tell you if i got on it you literally had to yell to hear anything. windows up, down, didnt' matter that bitch was LOUD! eventually got 20 something inch muffler from magna and it sounded great! after that. moral of the story is buy a larger muffler and you should be happier.

Ive got the 5x8x14 mufflers (the magnaflow catback kit), and with the header she was quite loud and raspy. With just the catback, the tone was deep, and still quieter than the motor (LD9 is a pretty loud motor without the intake resonation). After the header, i ended up getting a Dynomax Thrush Glasspack 22", and definitly worth it, it had the volume and deepness without the header, and still deep and sounds actually pretty good, that performance 4 cyl sound.

sorry im back again ... so if i get a 5 x 8 " oval muffler it will be quieter? im thinking about making it dual as well. Do you think i should just have my dad make a y pipe or a t connector and then get two of the mufflers? or should i get a muffler with on in and two outlets? whats the better way to do it?

Can you weld? If not, then have a shop do it. If you can, just buy the product you need off of jegs. The whole system, including resornator and mufler will run you around ... 150 ... maybe 200.

Here is a sound clip of mine. It is with the pacesetter header, 56mm TB, 2 1/4" ID (inner diameter) catback exhaust, high flow cat, 24" or 18" resonator (cant remember) and magnaflow muffler.

i can weld and i see no point in spending 150-200 bucks for piping i can weld togeather! My dad has a muffler shop and tranny shop here in town. He has a stock of mufflers (none with tips tho) and the ones we order they just isn't the right sound. They all were circular so i ask again if i get the 5X8 oval muffler will it make it quieter? if it wont then ill add the resinator to the list.

yes, try a 5x8x18 with some sort of a resonator in there and you'll drop some decibls
your muffler is more like a......say a 5x8x14, but those 4 extra inches help. i've heard it in personal experiance, or if you just want something a little more than a stock type, get their 22" model. something like that is kinda comparable to how loud a mustang gt stock exhaust is, or mabye a g35, somthing like that.

I would go with single, mainly for the performance, single is lighter, i only went with duals to fit in with my bumper (98 Sunfire GT), and the car had factory dual exhaust as well.

not really going with performance... giving it a better sound then stock but not loader then hell. also right now this car is kind of a teast dummy but i want to get the muffler that sounds the best sence on the next car i plan on getting a drift body kit. so i want to know what the best sound is and be able to get it right away.

The "BEST" sound is too subjective... Each person has different tastes and everyone hears a little different so there is no "BEST" sound as you put it... you simply have to fine what you like the sound of and go with that... And the only ways to find out what you like are to hear an exhaust that has the same mods as you plan to do or test different setups and see what works for you... I know that isn't what you want to hear but unfortunately that is the only way you are going to find the "BEST SOUND" you are looking for.

Knowledge about everything and yet an expert of nothing!!
Jack of all trades.

well i've always found the 'best\ sound for any car is a borla muffler. BUT having dual exhaust myself i don't want to pay $140 or whatever for just 1 muffler. that would be rediculously expensive. But borla is a def contender in just about everybodies list as the "best" if they've been around and heard a few.
Once i go turbo I MIGHT break down and buy dual borlas. if not i'll just shove one under my gt rear. but the duals would def be nice.
