Muffler right up under bumper......help

Hey guys. I have the 2.5 inch Megan Racing cat-back setup on my '05 Cavy. When I put the exhaust on it fit right up under the bumper, touching it. I knew that there would be a rattleing noise somewhere. What I was to later find out, is that there is a rattling noise, but only when I rev the engine above 3,000 rpms and the engine is still cold. Once it warms up the rattling sound goes away and I can take it above 3,000 without hearing anything. Now the exhaust isnt hitting the actual bumper, but the metal just behind the bumper. I dont know exactly how to fix this. I dont want to do something too drastic, like get a new hanger welded on or whatever. I was thinking of putting somehting between the bumper and the muffler, but I am not sure on what to do. Here are some pics so you can see what I am talking about.

very simple fix....

the bolt that holds the bumper (actual metal bumper not the cover), you use that. Drill a hole in some metal strips form the hardwear store, flat stock I htikn they call it (skinny small strip of metal, like 1/2 inch wide, 1/8 inch think mesure it and cut it to fit), you use that bumper bolt through the hole you drilled and then you weld it to the top of the muffler. I have that done on my car to hold the exhaust in place... you can actually bounce the entire car by pushing on the mufler, its complete solid and has zero movement

Ok, I think I will try that, but I will still have to take it somewhere to get some welding done.

are you sure the "rattle" you're hearing when the exhaust is cold is really metal-on-metal rattle? My exhaust has no metal on metal rattles... I've gotten under the car and shook it to hell with no clanks or bangs... but when it's cold it makes a gawd-awful raspy-pingy-rattly noise... Once it warms up, it stops. I've ordered a 20" Thrush resonator to help with the raspiness when cold and because it's just too loud... my $0.02

Maybe you could just trim the bumper to match the tip?

Yeah, Im sure the sound is a metal on metal rattle sound. Its not like the rattling u hear on cannister style mufflers when they are cold. Even though the Megan Racing exhaust is basically a cannister style muffler.

Its not the fiberglass that the muffler is hitting, so there is no need to trim the bumper. Its just hitting the metal on the actual metal bumper of the chassis of the car.

I will try and make a video soon, and post it, so u can get an ideo of what i mean. I will post a vid of when it rattles and when it warms up and doesn't rattle. My only explanation as to why it does this when it is cold, is because the exhaust seems to have more "bass" when its cold. Like the rear view mirror shakes a lot from 1-3,000 rpms if I punch it and it is cold. So I just think the muffler moves more when it is cold.

yeah i have that on my exhaust right now too, but it bugged me enough so i put it up on a lift and thumped the exhaust for a bit, turns out the flex tubing is worn out, soon im getting a header, so the flex tubing will be gone anyway. check it out. see if its the same thing. if not hey it was an idea.
