Break in period on motor mounts?
Saturday, April 08, 2006 2:21 PM
OK, I know that this sort of thing has been on the ORG before, but I cant find a answer with the SEARCH!...a real answer anyways!

I've got both the upper/lower RK Sport engine mounts on my 2004 Cavi, There is a lot of vibes, which I knew would happen, but....with they lessen after say 1-2 weeks, etc?

Any suggestions or comments, would be welcome...as always.

I was really dissapointed with the vibes. I installed both and it's nothing, but I guess it can't compare to my GTO. I'm thinking about making a solid lower mount. I like to feel the vibes.

it took about a 2 weeks for my mounts to break in... then again i also put about 1,000 miles a week on my car.

None the less, you are still going to have quite a few vibes because of your tranny... Automatics idle about 400 RPMs less than than a standard and THAT is the cause for the bulk of the vibes. They are also worse when you run your AC because of the extra load on the engine

Ive got a manual, and the vibes went away as soon as i put my tranny mounts in, bye bye harsh vibes. I may get a couple here and there, but i dont really notice them too much.

Really? I've always heard the tranny mounts make for harsher vibes sinve ALL of the moter & tranny viabrations got transfered to the chassie instead of the wheels or lost in the stock rubber

motor mounts will make your car vibrate no matter what. On manual trans cars its not bad at all, especially with the trans mounts in. Automatics vibrate like crazzy from the motor mouns and there is no production trans mounts available for the autos

Depending on how much driving you do, they should soften up over the next few weeks. If you still don't like them after you've put 500+ miles on them, then you may never like them.

^^^^Thanks for all the info...I put the stock one back on already...Holy Hell!....I am not sacrificing thank kind of drivability for performance(of that kind) anyway!

Let's see now, I go the dash, the dash bezel, the rear view mirror, the seats, the chassis, etc....you know what I mean...enough already! Rattletrap!

The first person to give me $50.00 bucks for it and its yours...Brand new RK SPORT upper ECO mount..new with instructions, only on the car about 10 Miles or less on it and its yours for the having. Heck Ill even pay the shipping for you to your doorstep.

Its in perfect condition. BTW,,..thanks for all the help as usual, JBO comes thru again!

P.S. - I still have the lower one on, I can live with that...but the upper..thats...well ^^^

I had mine for over a year, hated driving my car.... and lets just say ladies were not really impressed by a rattling dash... so I just took em off, and it made a world of difference. It actually made driving my car enjoyable again. so my conclusion, performance is not for me

Good to know info, I was planning on getting the trany mounts anyway. Gald to hear that helps with reducing the rattle.

Well I love mine both. Not to much rattle but if you plan on econo shifting then forget it. It will rattle hard core but I honestly don't care. While shifting everything seems to go so much smoother and has a nice fluid motion too it. I love mine. Now I have driven an automatic with them and when you go to stop at say a stop sign well the motor is still trying to go and it just viberates the heck out of the dash. Thats just my experience.
