Pure Petroleum

Has anyone heard of running pure petroleum through an engine in the oil and gas. A buddy of mine with a 2001 Civic said he did it and it was supposed to clean out the entire engine. He said he got it at a local part store. Anyone know anything about this.

I've used a product called "Seafoam"... Google it, and you'll find everything you need. I suspect this "Pure Petroleum" is the same kind of top-end cleaner.

he talked about running it through the engine and oil itself John, not as an exterior engine cleaning, internal. However I can see why you overlooked that as it sounds simply retarded.

And how would it clean out the entire engine? If you put it in the gas, it could possibly clean a small portion on the intake side of the head, the cylinder walls, and then if there's any gas that didn't burn up, a small fraction could 'clean' the exhaust port side of the head.

^^^continued (damn post button)

And if you put it in the oil, it would just recirculate whatever it 'cleaned' throughout the entire engine again.

I think you're buddy with the civic was either lying to you, or you're horrible and remember what ppl tell you...

I ran it directly trough my intake.... through a port in the TB or any place like that. Pour slowly.

Seafoam goes inside the engine not an external cleaner.

Semper Fi SAINT. May you rest in peace.

seafoam...gas tank, throttle body, crankcase...hence...cleaning internals in the process

No one said anything about external cleaning.... except for cmunn99gt who seems to be a bit off-base here. Ah well.

When I said "top end" cleaning... I mean clean the internal bits. But GM uses some de-carbonizer crap they pour into the cylinders with the plugs out... or so I've been told... I don't trust anyone at the local dealerships to not screw up my car... so...

I use Seafoam. I put part of it in the fuel tank, part of it in the oil, and then I run part of it through the TB using a vacuum port and a rubber line that i just stick inside the can. It sucks the stuff right into the intake. It runs a little rough for a few minutes but everything gets burned up and sent out the exhaust. It's good stuff. I've used it on every car I've owned, even carb'd motors.

my bad guys, I'm thinking of simple green, way off

doesn't GM sell something called 'CLEANZ' that you can pour in your engine?

I was thrown for a loop when you said put it in the oil as well. Cant really see anything getting into the oil, and even if something did, thats what oil changes are for. I'm going to go now...

Exactly which vacuum line are you talking about? Pics would be greatly appreciated!

the crankcase is where the oil is...
