Question about intake manifold.
Thursday, February 23, 2006 6:24 AM
Hello everyone i have a question about something. i was thinking changing my intake manifold and my throttle body but i someone that had a z24 also told me that just change the throttle body because the manifold will burn (something like that i cant even remember) and i will have to change it constantly, he says that i can just wrap the stock one with the material to keep the heat out.
so my question is does the intake manifolds will burn after a while as my friend says?
and sorry about this Q's what HO stand for??? i try to look it up in the org but i can find it..
thank you

I never heard of intake manifolds burning. The stock ones are plastic even.

if i change the manifold does it make any difference if i keep the stock ones and just change the throttle body?

The manifold will not 'burn' as your friend told you, I really have no clue where he was going with that. The 'HO' as in HO manifold stands for High Output. It was a quad4 engine that existed in many cars in the early 90's, something around ~180HP, due to better cams/manifold and such.

Manifolds will not burn, not even plastic ones. Unless you drench them in gasoline and light em up. Go beat your friend about the head and face for lying to you.

I don't have any flow charts. Most people dremel out their manifolds to match the ports on the intake side of their head. You will see some gains with a Tb. I can't comment on what the tb will do by itself. I had my tb and intake manifold installed at the same time. I have a Venom manifold. i got a good price on it. it also looks nice.

What i did, was install a header, seen some gains in the upper RPM's
then shortly afterwards, i port matched my PLASTIC intake mani... and seen some gains in the lower RPM's........ so far i got it balanced pretty good, with slight improvement in the whole range.... still havn't changed the TB......

ok i have a question now..... right now i have a injen intake (WAI short ram) so here is my question if i change the intake manifold and the tb will i be able to use the injen intake with the new mods?
thanks.

You should be able to.

i dont think so, i have a injen cold air intake too and you might have to take the small piece that comes off the Tb and point it down wards toward the ground, put the filter on the end of that and throw out the rest lol id your planning on the h.o manifold the h.o manifold is way different from the stock one and the opening faces the battery.

No, to my knowledge you cannot use any 2.4L WAI... unless maybe you can point it down off the intake and in behind your foglight. You would have to swap the 90 degree elbow that comes off the normal intake to attach to the manifold with a straight piece, but it might work. Has anyone tried this?

I missed that he was thinking of using the HO manifold. My bad!

If i change only the TB and leave the stock intake manifold, do i still be able to use the injen short ram intake, and is there will be a noticible change on the car (do will it fell the hp gain or something??)

Should be an increase if you go bigger... having said that I don't know how much or over what range it would be...

i want to know Jbody performance is selling the JBP 2.4L LD9 Ported Intake Manifold and Throttle Body Combo with this i can still use my injen short ram intake????? thank you

I can't see why you shouldn't be able to it's basically just a stock LD9 manifold ported to flow better with a bigger throttle body opening but ask Jbody Perf... They can tell you for sure if it is compatible or not.

Oh yeah and ease up on the BOLD... lol...

I heard that the stock intake manifold, will melt if it gets to hot. but thats just what i heard

your engine will overheat and blow the head gasket long before the intake manifold starts to melt.

I'm thinking your rings would get welded to the cylinder wall before you would melt an intake, unless you are running your intake directly next to your exhaust manifold/header for some stupid reason.

Most plastics have a melting point of 310+ degrees.
I'm sure your manifold is a higher temp resistant plastic then a PET soda bottle which melts at 260 degrees or so.

Highest melting point I have seen on plastic is in the mid to upper 500 degrees, what would produce enough heat on your intake to get it that hot?
