short shifter with stock knob?

i have a 2002 cav with the getrag trans. i know there is at least a couple of guys on here that have the b&m short shifter with the stock knob on it. this is my daily driver and i cant have a hot knob in summer or ice cold knob in winter, plus i love the way the stock knob looks. this is the only thing holding me back from getting it. if any one can explain how to use the stock one and not destroy it taking it off, i would greatly appreciate it. if you want to keep it a secret on how its done please send me a pm so i atleast can do it. thanks.

yank the old one off, and the oem one spins (threads) on.

and yes I agree, oem knob is the only way to go.

You should be able to twist it off without wrecking it. You'll just need an epoxy or something to seal it back on. You won't get it off without the inside grinding out.

Just buy a nice replacement knob wrapped in leather. There's a bunch of them out there that work with the reverse lockout lifter.

You simply need to twist the knob while pulling up on it to remove it form the stock shifter... I have done this with a couple of the OEM knobs and never damaged them... They even will screw right onto the short-shift and stay there without any epoxy... All I can say is pull up hard and twist, don't jerk it just apply steady preasure up while twisting and it should come relatively easy and still be usable with the SS.

The stock knob is hard to get off, try a cloth over it then some plumbing pliers, twist and pull. The stock one I just cut threads as I screwed it on, and it's been tight, for almost 2 years. Infact it's almost worn out, I should try and find a new one.

Why would you buy something because your stock nob is free cuz you allready have it. And Ian must be a weiner because i can pull the think off with little strain These people are making a big a deal out of it . It would take like 30 seconds to swap the knob but my advise is take the stock one off while your shifter is still in the console. The install the new shifter and at that point you can ask us if you need help. You prolyl wont need help it should eb super easy

the way the stock knobs are put on to the stock lever is the knobs are heated up so they expand , the put on to the lever and when they cool the plastic shrinks into the serations on the end of the lever

you can in some cases boil the knob off , i havent tried it

all the 1's ive done the knobs get distroyed , because i see no point in keeping the rubber knob

b&m wouldnt offer the knob if it was super easy to get off

and the black derlin knob is pretty nice a friend has 1 on his , it stays pretty cool

dunno if it's because mine was only 1 year old when I bought the b&m but the stock knob was super easy to remove while the shifter was still in place in the car.

Well, my 04 was about a year old whe i put my short throw in and I had to distroy the rubber knob. Dunno, maybe the AZ summers melted the knob more into place

My stock knob pulled off my stock shifter with no problem. As a matter of fact, I prepared myself to really yank on it and when it came off really easily, I almost punched myself in the face.
