header clicking
Saturday, February 25, 2006 1:02 PM
i just had a pacesetter header, and magnaflow cat put on my ecotec, and now when i start the car, when its cold i get a distinct clicking. this happens for a while upon acceleration, untill the car warms up. then the clicking turns more into a "whooshing" sound.

i used the stock gasket, as my car only had about 10,000 miles on it. what could be the sound? a leak, or just something i have to get used to? i've tightened the bolts down a couple of times, and that didn't really make a difference.

i cant see any leaks, so im not really sure what to do. any advice? opinions? etc.?
thanks again anyone who can be of help

I would have definitely used a new gasket. Not sure about your car but my 99 2.4 had a metal crush-style gasket, which aren't a good idea to be reused. I say change the gasket, crank those nuts down, and see what you end up with...

The header gasket that comes with the pacesetter headers is prone to leaking. It's probably that you used the paper pacesetter one, and it's leaking now... or reused the factory one. Either way, I'd buy a new fel-pro or similar gasket. That should solve the pinging noise.
