I am not to familiar with spark plug metal types, there "coldness" or "hotness" and what it all contributes to on an engine. Right now I have SRT-4 copper champions, and the car feels better then ever when accelerating. The plugs are gapped at .035
Does this sound reliable and correct? Is a cold plug OK for the ecotec engine, or will the plugs become fouled quickly? As far as performance goes, a standard copper plug feels the very best compared to the platinum tip.
Also, what is the normal, factory gapping of the ecotec's plugs? AND, if its copper, does the correct plug gap changedue to the ease of the spark "jump"??
It FEELS like the copper champs were a good choice, but I want to make sure I can leave them in the car for a few years and not have to worry about fouling or failure.
Thanks for the explanations in advance
if your staying n/a
then keep the stock GM ac/delco plugs
What is the reason for this? A few sources of mine have told me that a copper plug, run at a smaller gap will improve response and smoothness. But, these plugs do not last as long. Is this wrong?
(Please correct me if I am wrong)
If I am planning on hitting the high RPM's with a few friends each night, isnt the cold plug a better choice, EVEN if your running N/A. Even if the plugs can get fouled quicker, because there cold, they will still perform better at high rpm and heavy stress situations, whether you are running forced induction or not. And the smaller gap, .035 is actually very similar to the .040 gap of an platinum tip plug, because the spark cant make the jump as well with the copper...wrong?
I was under the impression that our stock platinum tip plugs are geared for the general driver, who runs his car at low rpm's and doesnt want to have to change out his spark plugs often. Isnt that why the platinum tip plug is stock to begin with?? In most performance vehicles, arent copper more common?
will the srt4 plugs fit the 2200
I have no clue. They really dont even fit on the ecotec, they are to large, and I consider it a bad practice to run oversized plugs.... who knows how close the piston gets to slapping that plug.
the part number for the XP plugs are the same with the EcoTec and the SRT-4.so i dont see how they are any longer
Colder plugs will foul quicker. But copper plugs are cheap, so just change them often. Or take them out and clean them with steel wool or sandpaper.
It's just plugs... not rocket science
As far as the stock plugs go... they're actually pretty darn good. Better than Bosch plugs, by far.
I use platinum +4, how do these compare to stock, do they perform better, last longer, both, or neither?
My only experience with the +4's was very bad. I bought a brand new 2000 Z24... after a week, I put the +4's in. My fuel economy went down, and I didn't feel a power difference.

i personally never had problems with them. i switch to NGL TR6 cause of the giggle gas

Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!
What are NGL TR6s? where could you get them at? like what parts store?
Thanks
