Intakes

I read over the FAQ part of the performance, but im kinda confused. I am looking for an intake, AEM, or injen, on ebay. I search for 02 cavalier AEM, and like 20 come up. Some are z24, some are 2.4, some are 2.2 ecotec.... I have a 2002 Cavalier 2.2 (not eco). What will fit mine? Is there a differance between the 2.4 intake and the 2.2? I think im prolly gonna be flamed for this, but i kinda wanna get it over with. Any help at all?

2.4L Intakes will NOT work on the 2.2L, the throttle body's on the opposite side of the engine. Stick with ones for your engine.

thats what i thought, i remember seeing a 2.4 i thought, its so hard to find a short ram aem or injen for a 2.2 02. I dont want a cold air cause i dont want rain getting into it when i put my buddy club 2 on. is that really a problem?

^^ unless your drving though a foot and 1/2 of water, no. not a problem at all.

It's a problem you definitely face, and a risk I would avoid, however I haven't personally met anyone who's had that happen. In the long run, short ram and cold air kind of even out as far as their benefits. Cold air gives good top-end horsepower, short ram gives good low-end torque and throttle response. I'd recommend short ram because as you get more and more modified, you're gonna want to get as much air to the engine as possible as soon as possible, and that's what short ram's are good for. Soem will argue, but that's the way I see it.

Many of the intakes you see on eBay say "Cold Air" or "Cool Air", but most of those are actually short ram. There are several intakes I was able to find on eBay that look good that are cold-air, but it's weird that eBay's not flooded with intakes for your car anymore... wonder where they all went...

Look for one that says 2.2L 98-02 or 2200. It's the same engine, some companies just list it as either or both.

Here's what I did for my intake. I removed the stock air-box and tubing, which only left me with the 2200 box. I then took a honda civic intake and attached it to the 2200 box. Picked it up at autozone for 20 bucks. Then I just clamped on a generic cone filter and viola, Instant intake.
