I know the MSD 6a won't work on the ecotec engines, but will it work for the old 2.2 ohv's?
I bought a 6a at the advice of a stupid employee at "Advanced Auto" afterwards I found out that I can't use it on my car. But my brother has a 96 cavalier so I was thinking that if it would work on his car. I'd give it to him.
Thanks!

It will not work on his car as well. You need a dis (like tohe DIS-2 or DIS-2 programable) compatable ignition system for his car and yours.
I would go back to the store and get a manager and explain the situation on how they sold you a part that wouldn't work for your vehical and that you mearly want credit toward a dis 2 that will work with your car, if you want an msd for your car. Did you try to install it?
it will not work as that particular unit is made to work on carburated vehicles or vehicles with distributors.

It will work,
BUT,
on any 1986 and up J-body, you will need 2(or 3 for V6) MSD6A's to function properly. One for each Coil Pack.
And then after that, the rpm setting for the rev limiter will be weird.
It would be much advised to swap the unit for a DIS2 unit instead.

thanks guys..that's the problem I went in and talked to this guy, got the part number and everything else..then bought the item online. And the people I got it from won't take it back...not happy. So unless I can off it for what I paid for it, I'm screwed.
so if anyone knows anyone that wants a brand new, never used, in the box 6a for 180 shipped...let me know.

Yeah, your best bet would be to sell it then. List it in the classifieds on this site, and maybe on ebay aswell.
