2.4 guys...removing the resonator only?

i have a 99 malibu with the 2.4....im wondering since some of the cav's have the same engine...if the exhaust setup is similar with a resonator, cat, and muffler. my exhaust is completely stock right now..no mods at all. i may upgrade to a new muffler one day...but i want to hear some in person on the 2.4. i want nothing much louder than stock, but i want a nice tone out of that 2.4 hopefully.

but how would it sound if i just took out the resonator? my friend just did it on his 02 stratus..it has the 6cyl..not sure what size...but it sounds so much nicer. it is slightly louder, but it has such a nice tone to it now...kinda like the infiniti G35's or FX35's sound if you have ever heard them before.

anyways...just looking on some input on what to expect if i take out the resonator.....or some input on a good muffler choice for me maybe?

You might find the car's raspy after removing it, especially at high RPM's or WOT. Even if you can't hear it inside the car while driving, everyone outside the car can hear it. Really won't do anything for power.

Plenty of mufflers to chose from, but the only muffler that will give you the stock loudness is the stock muffler, sadly. Look into Dynomax for a relatively quite one. Search around this forum and find the thread where someone wants to know how to get his cavalier to sound like a 350Z/G35, there might be more insight there. Search for info on the Dynomax muffler as well.

i did this way back along time ago and i remember it sounded a little more tinny' so to speak. more so when the car was cold.

i would do it though if i were you, cant cost that much to have a peice of pipe welded in it's place.

hhhmm...tinny/raspy sounds are not what i am looking for. when my friend did this on his stratus..it made it sound sooooo much nicer, not "ricey/fartcan" sounding at all. no loud pops or anything like that. just a smooth nice sounding tone throughout the entire powerband.

im really tempted to do this......hopefully it is cheap so i can maybe have the resonator put back in if i dont like how it sounds?

are there anymore 2.4 guys who have done this or heard it before? any input would be appreciated.

Ive got a z24. about a week ago i was like im gonna get my resonator hacked off. so i did. it made the exhaust a bit deeper adn throatier. a bit of tin but not bad. ill make a little video if u want. in neutral when your engine revs down youll hear the backfires though.

Working on obtainting an M-Class license... ?? Hint: 2 wheels.
