Right now I have a short ram intake on my car. Its a 2000 2.2, and I am going to be piecing two intakes together to look similar to what this is
RDFabs, even though the engine is different in the picture.
My short ram intake that I have now extends to pretty much where the filter is
on this car.
I was going to piece two intakes together to look like
this
It's, in a way, custom. Would I notice much difference going from my short ram to what I want to do?
Also would it be a better idea to remove my "2200 black box" thing from the top of my engine and hook the tube in place of that?
This is an older and dirtier picture of my engine. But the black 2200 thingy is this.
What do you think? Toss it or keep it?
dude, post the pics, my server at work doesn't like shopping websites

OK here is a better idea of what im gonna try to do. My engine is obviously different, but in this picture. Where the blue wannabe circle is, is where my air filter is currently located on my short ram intake. But i'm wanting to set it up just like this picture, the piping goes under the battery and etc...
Also, should I take off that black 2200 SFI box and dirrectly hook up my intake or not?
takin off that black box is debateable, I can't see any real gains from it. The only thing you are going to see gains from is the cold air. I say go for it!

If im not mistaken that black box reduces noise..atleast it did/does on teh 2.4's....id say go for it of u have the material...
I would get rid of the black box. Its to reduce noise and it kills off the whole, smooth air flow that an intake is supposed to provide. Plus you loose the sound that your probablly also looking for. If you loose the vent you can put a nice lil' mathcing breather as well
Ok so I need to cut a hole in my intake and place my IAT sensor in the hole. Where can I get the lil rubber thing to put in the hole? I'm sure you know what i'm talking about.
the little rubber thing is a grommet, and it can be found at any local hardware store, should run you about $.20
Ill make a sig someday
I would remove the black box also but you probaly won't gain any power in doing so. Also making you short ram into a cold air isn't going to do anything but cost money, if it made any difference at all it couldn't be more than 1-2hp at most.

Wen to AAP and got a grommet or w/e and tomorow hopefully it's nice enough outside so I can work on it. Thanks for the advice guys.
as said previously, the box is debatable
I would keep it, the inlet and outlet are plenty big and the cross-section is huge for the power that motor makes. and if you look at the actual air path on the inside it is alot smoother of a trasition from sideways-to-down than a 90* elbo would do.
I say keep it, it works better, but I don't actually have the flow numbers to back me up on this one

I don't actually read your posts
I stare them down until they give me the information I require
So as of right now, i'm in the process of making a hole for the grommet. My drill battery is dead and is charging. But since I didn't have the IAT directly in the intake do I need to do anyhting to it. Or once I get the grommet in the intake and the IAT placed in it, do I just put it in and go?
Thanks for the advice on helping me fix my problem. I purchased a grommet, cut a hole in the tube, and put the IAT in the hole. Now at a quarter tanbk im averaging 25 mpg. Awesome.
But i'm going to be buying a new intake, because I drilled the hole on the wrong side of the intake. So I will be buying a new one, probably off ebay since they're cheap and still work.
y dont you just relocate your iat sensor more to the front of the car instructions are on this site
As long as ithe IAT is in the intake tract, Placement is realitively a Mute issue. If it works, dont mess with it.

Take it from me who got ripped off in ebay you must be careful of what you buy. I have bought one off of ebay that looks just like the AEM brand. It will fit perfect for a 2.2 as it goes under the battery box and into the fender well. During the removel of the box you will find it diffacult to get out but with persistance it will come out. If you need help let me know just went through it. All the black box does is make it quieter and other than that nothing. pluse you lose alot more weight off the car than you think.
No use in starting a new thread, but here is my problem or questions might have you. So I hooked up my IAT so it is functional. I took pictures of my trank needle at a ¼ tank and at a ½ tank and this is where I was standing.

It reads 100.3 miles just a tad bit after a ¼ tank.

136.7 miles.
Why did I get good gas mileage for the first ¼ tank of gas?
Now at just a ¼ tank of gas left, i'm at around 190 miles to the tank.
What does the J and S mean?
This might b a dumb question, but did u reset it between 1/2 tank and 1/4 tank to see what kind of mileage u got between the two? If ur getting that kind of mileage for the entire tank, u might have a whole other problem, I would say maybe ur map is screwy. But if ur wondering why mileage gets lower as u go, idk why, but just about every car I have owned does it too.
In the cav, from full to the first line, I get 68 miles, from there, to 1/2 tank is 200 miles, from 1/2 tank to empty its between 80 and 100 and sometimes 120 miles.

Im sorry i wasnt specific, But what is a J tank and an S tank?
By the way, you will always get better gas mileage with a full tank then anything else. The reason for this is towards the halfway mark, the tank starts to curve inward. kinda like this:

hmmm, that didnt work. sorry.
the mileage is based on the way that the gas tank is shaped, like el fuego is trying to get at.
and is wasnt a j tank and s tank, it was 1 / 4 tank and 1 / 2 tank, but it really tiny so its hard to see.
Injection is nice but id rather be BLOWN!

Oh, sorry bout that, my browser is set for cyrallic.
So what kind of problem do you think i'm having? What did you mean by my map is screwy?
