I drive an 03 cavalier ecotec. Just replaced the battery about a month ago. It has 65K miles on it. During the past two weeks, whenever the car starts the engine will rev up to about 3000 rpm then idle down to normal. Driving at night, I have noticed my head lights and interior lights dim occasionally when slowing down. Now this morning my car will not start. The engine does not turn over at all. I was told the problem may be the starter (which think it is) or something called a starter solenoid... help?
the starter and solenoid are one unit sold together. the starter will only cause issues when starting. sometimes differences in hot starts and cold starts. however your problem sounds more like an alternator.

easiest thing to do is to boost the car.
if the car is jumped or the battery replace and it starts, the starter is fine and i would look at having your alternator replaced.
Injection is nice but id rather be BLOWN!
once the car is started, the starter's job is done. now if you are getting grinding on startup, or occasionally just a click and no start, then a few attempt and it starts, starter is most likely faulty. but my recommendation is get an OEM alternator from the dealership. i went through 3 reman alternators in 5 months before i finally said screw it.
