my car just took a dump and i need to rebuild fast. it over heated and it just stop running so i guess this would be a good to rebuild. i found this site for an engine rebuild kit for my car but i was wondering if what it had was atleast better than stock. sorry if this sounds like i newby question but i am gonna have to invest some good cash to rebuild and i really dont know where to start performance wise. so does the kit look any good for the price or would somebody recommend something else and if so what would it be and where can i get it. importperformanceparts.net was the site and i have a 98 gt. if anyone can help please do. thanx.
So how much for this kit ? And did you price Jasper Engines & Transmissions? They make stock and performance engines and they come with a warrenty.

Since you are new to performance, do you know what kind of goals you have? Do you want to stay naturally aspirated? Do you want to boost whether it's with a supercharger or turbo? The reason I ask you these questions is because compression is a big part of performance...if you want to stay n/a, you'd want to raise your compression over your stock 9.7:1 compression, if you're going boost, it's best to drop it lower than 9.7:1 compression.
If you don't understand what compression is, just ask.
There is alot more that goes into rebuilding a motor than opening up and throwing in some pistons and rods.
Now, if you seriously can't make up your mind but still want strong parts...purchase 9.7:1 forged pistons. Contact Karo @ Car Customs to get them made.

Also to answer your question, I don't know anyone who has really used them. Personally, it's better to just buy the parts and have it rebuilt locally than paying someone to get your parts and put it in a block that you have to more than likely supply for them.
Basically, I'd rather just cut the middle man out.

well for now i can t go turbo (i would love to) but cant because i dont have the kind of money to do it right. im working on the exterior but i do want to have a strong running engine that can handle some horsepower. i have installed the ho mani and i have the crank and alternator pulley ,motor mounts, secret cams, valves, and a full exhaust sitting with header in my room ready to be put on but i just didnt have the time for yet i was trying to put it all in together.
hey my car starts now but it feels rough. before when it idled icouldnt feel it but now i do and when you rev it it shakes even more. what do you think that is? i know that that is like asking you if this looks infected..haha.... but do you have any clues?

It could be the temperature/weather of when you start it up and how warm your motor is, that could effect your motor at idle. Or possibly, it's all in your head

i just took a cruise on it and there was a loss of power. it doesnt run the same now. i guess im just gonna have to take it somewhere to get it check after i know what it is then im gonna see what i have to buy i guess.
hope everything goes good
Unfortunately Killa, If he needs a rebuild he'll prob need a machine shop. Thats why i mentioned jasper as an alternative.

True that. Most of the places I know that do engine rebuilding also do machining work.

And he said needs it fast........how much faster then a swap out can you get ? Most machine shops around here have a several week to several month turn around time
not exactly getting it done now.
If you can go the machine shop route and can take the time to get a custom built engine
great. But if you need it NOW and can't wait more then a week try Jasper. They keep most egines in stock and ready to ship the next day when you call. Performance engines useally take a couple more days but you get an engine built how you want thats been DYNO TESTED AND COMES WITH THE SHEETS !!!! and has a warrenty of depending on what stage you get anywhere from 6 months to 3 years. True full race stage 3 and up engines donot have anything other then a start up warrenty but when your getting one of them its to be expected.

i would call jasper first.
I was a retard, and now I'm permanently banned.
when u blow your motor would the engine still turn? mine does and it even sounds like it wants to turn on. im not really sure whats wrong with it but a guy at work told me to check my plugs maybe i had toasted them and they did look pretty burned. they are practically new and the little boots with the little springs well on 2 of them the rubber on them melted, also the thing that i have to check is the coils but i wasnt able to cuz i left my tool bag at work. there was also oil where the spark plugs sit right in between the to cam towers. do you think it can just be that, an electrical problem? when you overheat do you always mess up the pistons. is possible that nothing happened to them?
see what happened was i was driving home and all of a sudden my temp needle when down and then it shot up to the red part on the temp gauge my heater stopped working and about 45 secs later the car stalled on me and would not turn on. i walked home got my other fire and went back and the gt started so i drove it home. but it was knocking louder and doing some other kinda springy noise. like i said it also lost power and you can feel it idle. went to work came back and now the car just turns but no start.
so when i said that i needed this done fast i did not mean tomorrow or in a week but i cant go into something that is gonna cost me too much cuz then all my car is gonna do is just sit there and i cant have that. its sat there long enough before this happened. so i can rebuild but i just need to know what it is that is NEEDED, what i can spare, and where i can get it. by needed i mean (example) im not gonna get valves and springs that can handle 900 hp because i dont need them. like i said i do want a strong engine that will last but nothing outrageous. so if someone can just help on that and answer my questions or question or even opinions let me know.
this is what i got:
ho manifold......... installed
obx header.......... installed
spec stage 2 clutch......... installed
magnaflow high flow cat ......... in my room
magnaflow exhaust ......... in my room
motor mounts............ in my room
alt pulley........... in my room
crank pulley ........in my room
secret .....cams in my room
valves..... in my room
you guys think that if i do everything in the head it would be ok. like lifters valves guides cams.. hope to get some opinions from you guys.
thanks.
if i misspelled something i meant to do that!!
Checked your reg and I'm assumeing this is for your 03 Sunfire correct ? Well I jusy called Jasper and they do not build this engime as of yet so that kills that Idea. GM
performance parts offers it tho in a running complete engine for about 1800 bucks. Or
you can hit a junk yard and find a wrecked low mileage 04 or 05 car and grab its engine.
As for just rebuilding the top end, its hard to say without knowing more about the engine. For example the cranking compression and leak down rates of the cylinders.
Also is the oil contaminated with coolant ? Did it make any knocking or banging sounds before it died ? What happens when you try to start it ? All these are things that would make a big difference as to if it could be done or not.

no this is for a 98 sunfire gt i havent added this car yet. yes it did have a little knocking to it before this happened. and when i try to start it the engine turns but it never actually starts. then it smells like gas. so i am thinking maybe its the coils cuz i had already burned those out once and it was doing the same thing plus i need to get those little boots from rksport now since the stock ones melted.
Knocking means bearings or a cracked piston. Time for a swap out. Which engine does this car have in it ? The 2.2 or 2.4 ? Knocking and wont start, I wouldn't bother doing anything more then a swap.
Semper Fi SAINT. May you rest in peace.
Should be a 2.4 correct? Sounds like you poped a lifter. Which is a common issue on the 2.4's. Check out the motor really well, you might just have to rebuild the head and be good to go.
2002 Z28: Slp coldair Pac, Corsa Catback, 3200 stall
it does have the 2.4 on it. and fats02z28 i hope you are right thats what i think i am gonna try first which the head. but what do you suggest i get whats good aout there. let me know. thank you.
A bad lifter wouldn't cause a knocking sound tho. Knocking = bottom end = VERY BAD.
