ok I purchased a 57mm thorrlt. I installed. now There is a high idle. So I put back the stock throttle body. normal again.
There appears to be a slight gap all the way around the throttle plate.
Is this idle normal of larger throttle bodies? oh btw with it on it idles at 1100, with the stocker on it idles at 600.
Sorry...

No, it's not normal. You should idle the same as you did before. When you're not on any throttle, your butterfly should be closed and not have any gaps. The effect of bigger throttle bodies is when the butterfly is open.

Exactly, your TB butterfly should not have any gaps in it.

Like the others said, there shouldn't be any gaps. Do you have any pictures of what you're talking about?

Blown.
Hey guy's, he bought that t.b. off of me. When it was on my car i did not have that high of a idle. It was on my car for about 1 year, driven by me and my wife . If it idled that high when she drove it, she would have been in my sh*t about it. The t.b. is still in the same condition as when i bought it.
I hope he figures out what probelm he is having with it. I don't want him to think i sold him a bad part on ebay. I have sold other parts on here before, to other members, with no probelm. I hope it works out for him this weekend, he will keep me informed.
Check your linkage is there a chance it is holding the plate open and giving you the gap your talking about?

Thats Him Officer The WICKED One.
did you let the car relearn the new bigger tb............ theres 2 ways to go about that drive around with the high idle and it slowly goes away.... or disconnect the battery and turn on all lights to get all the electricity out of the car then let it sit for a lil while like that. then the computer will clear and then when you start the car up it will start relearning everything. Personally I like just driving around with the bigger tb in my car. so far Ive noticed better acceleration off the line..... in the mid band....... and in the high end.

I apologize for the interruption, but this really caught my eye and I have no knowledge on changing a tb.
Can someone tanswer the following:
Is installation of a new tb is that much more difficult then something like installing a new intake?
How much would a new good performing tb cost?
How big should someone go for an '01 cav with a 2200?

Throttle bodies are pretty much easy to install, right between the intake and intake manifold. I would look for prices in the 200's, no more then 3 bills.
As for the 2200.. I am not that familiar with it, I know on Eco's, 62mm is a good size (don't try to go too much over); I am ordering a 62mm in a few weeks most likely.

It all depends on volumetric efficiency; if you don't have too many mods done to your engine then a larger tb won't make a large difference in power.

Blown.
thanks for the quick answers
well i have a short ram intake with a k&n cone filter (check my pics), what kind of gains am I looking at based on that in terms of hp, and 1/4 mile times? also can someone point me to a good guide for installation?
again, thanks for all the help and sorry to interrupt
unless you get p&p for your head can accept more air flow, it wont help much, but probably low 15's, but never know, all cars react different to mods. Hope this helps.
you might also have to adjust the idle screw. I had to buy a new set if torx (torx plus) to adjust it..but it fixed mine...good luck.

hmmmm, I'm looking at my haynes manual to try and find where the idle screw would be (didn't know we had one ) but can't find any info on it. Also, it doesn't seem to say much about the throttle body except for how tight it's screws should be. I guess what I'm asking for are pics of the location for the idle screw, and a quick rundown guide on replacing the TB.
look at the bracket where the throttle cables attach too..it has a stopping point...which is the idle screw(Left Rear of the throttle body). Make sure to mark it before you start so you can turn it back to stock if that doesn't help any. If you turn it counter-clockwise, it will close the butterfly. Clockwise opens it.
