Look at the red circle. Why do some ecotec heads have this and some dont. One of my friends does not have this metal triangle coming off the head, however, mine does, and it is right in the way of me installing an electric oil pressure gauge. His build date is not far from mine. What is it and what is its function?
I will be posting more pics soon.

I think it is for an oil cooler, maybe installed in some heavy duty applications? Not sure I will do lookat my heads again

that is the egr passage on the 2.2 head

rsm mills that off also for use with the stage 2 s/c kit they have
as far as i know all 2.2's have that on them
my friends 2.2 does not have this. I thought that the ecotec does not have EGR.

It does not, but they have it there. That should not keep you from installing a oil pressure gauge. The port of the oil pressure is below the head on the front side of the motor.

no there is a place right above that you should be able to tap. i know that the stock location is in the front but i dont want to try to tap that. no room. to set up an electric sender there you need to run a mechanical line and remotely mount the electric sender.

The car that he is talking about is my car, and its a 2005 Cavalier.
its possible gm did cast heads with out for the 05 models
ive never seen 1 though , unless someone had taken i off , like rsm does
none of the cavs ever had egr , i know the saturns did
there are some ecotec motors with and some without this passage on it. it is in fact an EGR passage according to the GM factory service manuals.
there is a place right above it to put the sender in but you need the adapter from Autometer. I think its M12 or something dumb. call them and tell them you need the ecotec adapter. if you get someone competent theyll know the part. i have 2 of the three ports over there used for oil things (turbo oil supply and pressure sender) so i know that spot works. you MAY have to grind down the plate on that piece to make things fit. i had to grind it a little to get my oil line to fit without rubbing. nothing major to worry about though.
IM me if you need any more help

yep its an EGR passage if you take off the exhaust manifold youll see it cast into the manifold to

The one, the only, ME.
Im going to have to go against everyone else....... and say its for exhaust gas recirculation........ but I could be wrong.
