2.2 Thermostat
Monday, November 21, 2005 7:52 AM
I'm pulling the head on my OHV today or tomorrow to adress some issues, replace a few things, and I'm curious. I am not 100% sure if the thermostat needs to be replaced or not. I'd like to get a higher temp one if possible. Anyone have links / part numbers or do I not even really need to do this?

What temp do you currently have? It should be marked on it somewhere.

Semper Fi SAINT. May you rest in peace.

I just bought a brand new duralast 180 degree temp a couple months ago from advanced auto parts. They also have the 195 degree one as well. I don't know if your looking for one right from GM or not though.

I got this info from BlackCav00 because I was worrying about cooling issues from excessive use of nitrous and how hard I run my car/

Quote:

Seriously, try this thermostat from Jet. I got mine at turbotechracing.com and it works like a charm. That coupled with a 50/50 coolant and water mix and a bottle of WW is a great cooling solution for cheap.

I've gotten back up stories about this workiung pretty good from credible sources also here on JBO!

And yes, its something I'd deffinately change because I know of what you have planned on your car from what you've been posting.

A higher temp? Can I ask why?

What he said.

If you're using OEM gauges for temp readings, don't trust 'em. Use the scantool for a more reliable reading.

I'll take a glance at the one from TurboTech and probably get it. But for my main question, do I absolutely HAVE to change the thermostat before I put everything together after pulling the head?

I didn't, and that was 1.5 years ago - everything's still running great.
