Upper ECOTEC Motor Mount Question...
Sunday, November 20, 2005 6:23 PM
I am currently trying to install the upper mount and I have the stock one off as i'm typing this but it seems like I'm missing something. The upper most bolt on the assembly I have to get myself? I cant take it off the stock mount. Any suggestions as to what I should do to help it stay in place? Thanks.

hmmm, you support the engine, high enough so you will be able to place the mount correctly and bolt it, tighten the bolts enough, if you can't bolt it down all the way, you carefully drop it a couple of cm, then tighten the bolts, then once the jack is removed, just make sure the bolts are correctly in place. You can check them back after a couple of rides, just to be sure

Good luck!!

Yeah, my dad and I just finished putting the Upper mount in, we couldn't get the bolts on the lower one to budge so i'm going to a local performance shop to see if I can use their lift, I know the owners so it shouldnt be too hard. I would have tried perhaps WD40 to break it loose but I dont have any. But I also took it for a test drive and wow!, I started it up and it vibrates slightly but i don't really care if it vibrates a lot or a little. I'm not THAT picky, lol. Thanks for the help though.

The bolt that goes on top that the other side of the cruise control bracket is not included.

My friend had one just the right size in his garage that fit the stock nut. I would measure the stud on the stock mount to see how big around and long it needs to be and then take the nut to a hardware store and look for a bolt that long that has the right threads.

Or just pick up a new nut, bolt and a washer.

FYI, it's easier to install the lower first and the upper after, some people said it was more difficult to put the lower mount in place when the upper one was installed. Only saw this in a post, since I did lower and then upper, I can't really tell if it's completely true...

....brining back from the dead..............

Vibes worth it? I plan on just getting the top mount for now. With just the top mount installed can you feel the difference in power transfer?

Yes it worth it, the vibes are not as bad as some people describe them. You'll get use to it fast enough.

Back from the dead? Not really, its not even a month old. I like the mounts and I would say they are worth it.

Like said above, the vibes aren't all that bad, although my car is a stiff S.O.B so extra vibes don't really matter to me. I havent installed the lower yet due to the whole massive snow ordeal where I live, i'm sure some of you have the same problem. But for example, when my car is revving down, and I look in my rear view mirror, it vibrates slightly. Not violently to the point of being unable to tell whats behind me but it vibrates. Not sure if it would be different in a 5-speed but I like it so far. I'm just looking on things to get next since I just recent;ly aquired roughly $4,000 due to christmas/work/summer savings. I'm staying N/A due to Autocross so if anyone has some suggestions then it would be greatly appreciated

Just thought i'd ask, lol. But the mounts are definetly worth the money. If you have a sound system and love bass then the vibrations from the mounts will be nothing compared to the bass, so you should be good. I'm sure the vibrations from the bass will harm your body faster than the mounts will too, lol.

Nevermind, Just saw you have no performance mods unless your profile is old. Get the basic bolt ons to start, Intake and a full exhaust. You will see a nice improvement with that.

I'm just getting the upper for now. But by having the upper and not the lower will or did anyone notice much more of a difference with not having the lower compared to having the lower one. Hope that made sense???

Oh, one other question..........Anyone's dash crack or make noise because of the vibes?

It does it from factory so...... Mine was doing noise before, but when I'll be tired of it, I'll throw the damn plastic piece between the dash and the window in the garbage.....

This thread seemed fitting: When doing the lower mount, do I have to support the engine with a jack? I would assume so, but nobody has said. The Team Forward Motion walk thru is vague.

I would just because it makes the install THAT much easier
