doing a 2.4L to a 2.4L swap soon, any advice?

i have a 1996 z24 with a 2.4L engine obviously....

it has about 153k miles on it, and after replacing the valve cover and cam cover seals and gaskets, it still pours out oil and smokes when i stop. i think its the rear main oil seal.

anyways i bought an engine from a wrecker, that is super clean and has around 40k miles on it. im going to pull my dying engine and hang it, build the internals and port and polish everything, as well as turbo it.

anyways i am swapping the same engine, (the low mileage engine is going in to give me time to build my other one) but im wondering if there is anything tricky i need to look out for? or any advice you guys can give me for the swap?

i have a few friends that have swapped thier civic engines helping me, so together with them how long do you guys think a swap using the same engine will take?

it looks pretty easy with only a few mounts and wires and hoses, but i dont know overall how hard it will actually be.
also: are there any online guides anyone has made to help me out?

thanks for the advice!

not difficult at all man. as long as it's pre-00 to pre-00 LD9 then everything will match right up. the only really tricky part is getting the axles out of the transmission. just pull, pull, and pull some more.

i believe there was something about the 2000 and up knock sensor being threaded differently

but if the motor is pre-2000 then like said, you shouldn't have problems

sorry for the double post, but i didnt finish typing before i accidentally pushed "Post".

anyways, the guys at the wrecker said finding the tranny mounts was hard because they were hidden underneath somewhere.

and does anyone know if it lifts straight out, or if you have to tilt it sideways to lift it out?

Unbolt the hood but leave the hinges on the car so it will line back up. Then unbolt the tranny, or just pull the axles and yank the whole deal right out.

Remember to hook the picker to the lift hooks on the engine and get it so there is no slack in the chain before you loosen the motor mounts.

What'd you pay for the engine? If you don't mind me asking.

I always drop it out of the bottom..... but maybe thats just me.

Engine will be fine, just replace the waterpump with a new AC Delco pump..... dont use a cheap off brand from AutoZone/Pep Boyz........

i got the engine for 600$. thats for an entire long block read to drop in, with less then 40k miles, and a 3 month warranty.

and where would the water pump be located?

Yeah if it a pre-2000 motor then it is a easy swap. We always pull from the top, with the hood on the car. not hard. If you have a 5 speed, I would replace the clutch as well.
