has anyone tried to put a 97 2.2 cam into a 98 2.2? I read it on the ny library. but i just wanted to know if anyone has done it? and how hard was it did it fit right in? did you need any parts besides the cam? and how does it idle? what kind of gains? but i'm going to try it anyway. i just wanted to see if any of yall have tried it.

My gut wants to say "No it won't work" but honestly, I'm not sure.
but my question is why you would want to do such a thing? I mean you're basically ripping apart your motor to put in a camshaft that is off another stock motor that is probably slightly different in duration and lift but nothing major.
It just seems not logical to me but maybe there is another reason why you are doing it...that's why I'm asking.

Ok I just read it. Still, not sure why you would still want to do it because:
1. Me and you don't really know no anyone with a 2.2 OHV that has done such a mod
2. The amount of time you are ripping open your motor to do such a modification, it won't be worth it.
Remember, your camshaft is located pretty much in the block, not on top like the DOHC motors. Also remember even if you did such a modification, you will still be bringing in the same amount of airflow through your 8 valve head, so power difference would be little untill you opened up your valves with a good port job and upgrade your head parts.

they also have it for the 2.4 motor. you just take a cam out of a 2.3 motor.

some people said that it really doesn't fit. but it really wouldn't be worth it, the differences in the cam won't get you much more power. If your going to tear apart the motor you might as well save up and call Crane or comp cams and spend like $150-200 on a better cam made for you
The 2.4 motor is different. The older engines made more power than the current 2.4 and have cams that would make more of a difference than a 2.2
you read what is said
"So in theory by doing the swap you will get a cam and rocker combination of .460 inch valve lift, instead of stock .420 lift."
Meaning that no one has tried. That does not mean it is going to work either until someone tries it we will not know if it will work.

Only suggestion I can give is find a machine shop near you because you want to have a head that is ported professionally and that is Flow Bench tested. While it's off, buy the proper parts for the head. You can purchase them at
