Are there any other places that you can get some that are hardened but stock size? J-body only sells 2.2L rods, not 2200.

yeah those are good strong pushrods with heat treated ends, but the main body/shaft of the pushrod isnt heat treated for use with guideplates. Just so you know.

The crane pushrods are great pushrods, but like Mike said... they aren't treated for guideplate useage.

^^^The 2.2L push rods are 0.067" too long for the 2200.
As for the push rods, Crane, Comp or most any cam manufacturer, that make push rods can make them for you.

that would be the oposite...the 2.2 pushrods are shorter of .067" than the ones from the 2200

just call jbodyperformance. they can make the pushrods for you to fit the 2200 or 2.2

so no body really makes them with the hole thing heat treated . does anybody know how much it would cost to get them heat treated? or is that something that they have to do when they mold and make them? does anyone else do custom rods ? ive had really bad experience with jbodyperformance. thanks

so how much would they cost if i had them specialy made? if i was to use the 2.2L rollers then would that compensate for the difference in lengths on the rods ?

You'd probably pay a couple hundred bucks for custom pushrods. And no, the rockers do not compensate for pushrod length.

well correct me if im wrong but wouldnt adding a little length to the rods would just give the valve a little more lift ? or would the .067 length give the valve to much lift with 1.6:1 rollers?

No you cant just make the pushrod longer to get more lift, it will only thow the rocker geometry off, and you damage the rocker, the valve , the valve guide or all three and more. If you maintain stock installed height on the valve, then a stock length puxhrod is what you would use, if you have a longer installed height like my setuo is going to be, it will be .200 longer, than you have to have the same length increase on the pushrod so the geometry stays the same.

Basically when your looking at the roller tip sitting on the valve stem, you want it to be sitting towards the rear of the stem when the valve is fully closed and the lifter is on the base circle of the cam, When the lifter is at the middle of its travel you want the roller to be in the center of the valve stem and at full lift you want it to be on the outer edge of th stem.

That way the rocker is rolling over the entire valve tip and it wont prematurly wear out one spot.

Also, when you order your pushrods just tell them you want them to be heat treated for use with guideplates.

Is it normal for non-hardened/heat treated push rods to look like this when used with the guide plates, or do I need to modifiy the guide plates? The guide plates are grinding away the push rod, and I've already opened the guide plates and made them deeper. Do they need to be modified even more or will switching the rods to hardened rods stop them from looking like this?

Re: 2200 push rods

in all honesty, whats the point of a stronger pushrod?

i thought they were always under the same load no matter how much power you make.

Re: 2200 push rods
Thursday, November 17, 2005 10:35 PM
its not so much as to be stronger but more to be hardened and heat treated so they can be used with guide plates. the 2200 doesnt have guide plates fromthe factor and if you want to install a roller rocker that is adjustable you have to install guideplates and hardened push rods like the ones in the 2.2L

No whats sad is there was a link posted earlier in this thread that taks you right to the Howell website to the pushrod page and in the description it tells you the length of the 2200 pushrods.

Crane GM 2.2 OHV Push Rods 98-up $69.95

These performance pushrods are perfect for street performance applications where stock pushrods are too weak or are prone to flexing. Pushrods are made from aircraft quality 3/8", 4130 chrome moly seamless steel tubing, and feature heated ends for extended wear. The finished overall length 7.520" is accurate to within +- .005" per pushrod!

And people are just to lazy to go and read it on there own.

The pushrods is getting worn down becasue it is not heat treated, and that will alwasy happen, the ones from Howell will not stop this from happening, becasue like i said ealier only the tips are heat treated not the main shaft/body of the pushrod. They are designed as a stock replacememnt pushrod only stronger.
