I've been contemplating this since I never use it anyway, how hard would it be to do this and will my defroster still work ok? I know that some ecos come without a/c so there must be a way

Haven't heard of any without air but that doesn't mean there wasn't one or two made that way. But to answer your question your defrost will still work but it sucks not haveing the option of cold air when the defrost is on. Not sure how hot it gets where you are in the summer but around here the hummidity gets high and then it pours down rain and the only way the defrost works is when its blowing cold air. But good luck. personaily I'd leave it cause when its off the compressor pully just free wheels and is just a idler pully anyway and the whole system only weighs like 20 pounds or so.
Why do you want to pull it if you don't mind my asking?
Semper Fi SAINT. May you rest in peace.
well id take off the whole system compressor included which is pretty heavy, i dont use it anyway and the car is going away from being a daily driver, even in the summer i dont use the ac, more power less weight

I think as long as the blower motor is left in, you'll be fine.
I was a retard, and now I'm permanently banned.

Which isn't directly a part of the a/c system.
You have to have the a/c system discharged. Then pull everything out(carfully, as there could be some pressure left in the system). The heater will still work.
I've had my ac taken out for years, compressor, condensor and all. it weighs ALOT and after just removing the ac i saw about .1 quicker on the q-mile. the defroster will still work just fine. If you need a belt number for no ac i can get that for you.

The one I weighed was 36 pounds. Condenser, tank, compressor, lines.. Hardly worth it I'd say.
Aside from that... air conditioning isn't a standard option (at least, not in Canada)... so there must be tons of them out there that don't have a/c.
in 1996 the first 6 months worth of Z24's did not come with AC....i know cause i have one of em
btw whats the no AC belt # i forgot
You could get a Z24 with no A/C at any time... you can delete the option. But it was an order-only thing... most dealers just took the usual RPO options..
I've been looking at the GM site... was A/C standard from 03-05?? Because it isn't in Canada. Very odd...
I don't think he wants to get a whole new car just to delete the AC. He simply wanted to know how hard it is to remove from HIS car.

i never use it my only concern is still being able to defrost without it, i would think so seeing as how some ecos come without it

Ok the only thing that AC on in defrost mode does is remove the moisture from the air and cools it at the same time but then the air is routed through the heater core and heated back up again to defrost the windshield.
I have noticed that removing the AC causes the defrost to take allot longer due to the fact that the air is not being dehumidified.

I can't imagine having a car without A/C. It seems so odd to me that someone would actually want to remove the A/C from the car.
Some of us live where it is cooler all the time.
I have had my a/c removed for well over a year defrost works just fine.
It will get rid of some weight AND will make it easier to mod things under the hood without having it in the way.
i live in the mid east US and it gets pretty hot in summer but i dont ever use A/C

...are you trolls that dumb that you cant realize mid 15s is slower then 14s?
