hey all,
I'm considering an exhaust as a future mod for the cavalier(2004 Eco) and i was just starting to put my options together as far as price, and what not. I want to make sure i only have to do stuff once, and that i will be happy with what i do.
As far as a setup, i was thinking of the rksport rear section, with a resonator. i found a dynomax 31" glasspack on jegs for like 30 shipped. there was also a 27" on there for the same price. i want an exhaust that sounds pretty close to stock, as to not attract too much attention, and avoid all rasp.
my questions are, will i just need to purchase the rear section, or will i need the full catback exhaust? if i add the glasspack, will i be better off with the 31 or 27? will either fit? and does anyone have a similiar setup, with any soundclips, or just opinions on the setup/experience with it?

Cat backs are ok but any real gains will come only from a complete swap. Header and all. then you'll notice a difference...... A big one. My 04 dropped about 200 rpm at 55mph meaning that its makeing more power so the engine doesn't have to work as hard to do what it used to.

go with a full set up. header, cat, 2.25 inch pipe, resonator, and a muffler of your choce

yes i have to agree with having a full header back system. i sure did notice the gains of having header better then my cat back. pretty damn good makes me wish i had boost now to compliment that

i agree, and completely understand what you are saying, but the problem with that is my warranty. i need the warranty, especially because the car is in both my father and my name. i am also concerned with throwing codes, and i shouldn't get any check engine lights with the setup i was inquiring about. thanks again for all the responses already, and any future ones anyone can provide.
done properly an exhaust should not throw a code at all. even if it is done 2 1/4 back.
your warranty cannot be voided unless the company can actually prove that the part you installed caused the failure. At least this is what I've been led to believe.
For example, if you put on an intake and get a misfire code or something of the like, your intake didn't cause it. or it's highly unlikely it did. They'd have to prove that whatever you did caused the damage.
Someone correct me on this?
ok, i didnt think i would get any lights, and that is my concern, because i have the feeling that because i am a kid, the dealership will want to tell me that the cel's screwed up the computer which the whole car runs through, so no warranty. if anyone has any more experience with that any responses would be greatly appreciated. also, will just the rear section and the resonator be enough? and will that large of a resonator fit after the cat? thanks again everyone
I work at a dealership and changeing your exhaust will only void the warrenty on the parts you swap out. Basicly if you put on a different muffler then the muffler's warrenty has been voided and so on. But putting on a header and a new exhasut system will only void the warrenty of the exhaust NOT the engine or anything else. At least thats how service manager works it, You may want to just ask the service manager of the dealership you go to if its gonna pose a problem. But it shouldn't.

I've heard of people having trouble fitting that large of a resonator, while others succeeded. A sure bet would be 24", but I'm sure if you research a bit you will be able to fit your 27".
As far as performance, the gains from a partial exhaust, if any, will be minimal. Your exhaust is only as good as its smallest part. That's why you should save up and get the whole thing, including header.
