hey i put in my new JBP lifters and s/c grind cams and i still hear a tapping noise while cruising and when the engine is rev'd up. Like ill put it in park, rev it up and it will go rrrrmmmm ti ti ti ti ti like a marble or something and when im going down the road with my foot off the gas i can hear it tapping or ti ti ti ti. I dont think its a bent valve or rod btw cause my mechanic said it didnt sound loud enough or sound like any of them. help guys.
you can get the valves for $100 from Karo. You might as well do that. But since you replaced all that @!#$, you need to adjust them too.

Adjust your valve lash. Your rockers have probably worked themselves loose.
so what is it you guys think? order new car customs stock sized valves or what? i really need to get this fixed because to me the car doesnt have as much power as i thought it would with the s/c cams in it and plus i was running off like 5 tenths at the track when i noticed the problem a while ago.
Hey J, where are you located?
May have some free time to stop by and check out your ride/listen for the problem.

well before i get anyone else to check the problem out someone suggested to check the oil preasure and see if its pumping enough oil to the lifters cause when the engine is cold (thick oil) theres no tapping and when it warms up (oil gets thinner) there is tapping. so i guess ill go from there if thats not the problem.
btw the compression in all the cylinders is 200 the meter read so it cant be a rod, piston or valve i dont think.
how do i fix it and how much will it run me for the part? ive neve rheard of anyones wrist pin going out of a 2.4
ason beat me to it, it could possibley be a wrist pin starting to go.....

i never heard of it either until my motor with only 49XXX miles started tickign bad... after replacing all lifters i gave up and had someone more skilled have a stab at it. turned out to be a bad wristpin... no clue why. normal wear and tear they say. damn i wish i had the extended warranty at the time....

if its a bad wrist pin why would i only hear the tapping on the exhaust side of the valve cover?
if it was valve lash it would do it while it was cold, so it's not that. Piston slap maybe?
Maybe the spark plugs arent tight, it caused a tick in my motor, kinda made me upset, cause i ended up changing the oil again before finding that out.
odball, but could be your timing chain/tensioner
Jon
yeah but the sounds coming from the exhaust side of the engine....like exactly over it, not the middle not the intake side, the exhaust side only this is so hard to figure out

How's the cam timing? Your exhaust cam could be off a little and your valves and pistons are getting to know each other...

could be. but it does sound like a wrist pin to me. check your timing and adjust valve lash

as much as i hate to tell u im almost positive u have a bad wrist pin, i was in denial for like a month before i came to realize i needed an engine rebuild...
3 mechanics located my tick to my exhaust cam housing.... engine noises and ticks are nearly impossible to locate unless its a common problem with the type of engine.

does it tic while idle? Cause in jasons, as soon as he hit like what 2500 RPMS you could hear the tic, then when he went a little higher it would go away.
Dam that sucks, are you two the only people that it has happened to so far?
