Just like the title says. Mine sounds like a bumble bee and I don't know if its the header or the bad job that exhaust shop did with the pipe work.

it can be so many factors .... are you running a cat? a resognater? what size pipe? what engine ? if you want to get rid of the buzz sound the most i can tell u is put a cat ( if you don't have one) and a 28 inch resognater .. that should help a lot . other then that i don't know .. what style muffler do you have?
Jack, where are you in Maryland?
I've heard/seen enough of these set up to let you nkow the problem.
But basically, like blade was saying,
As long as you have a resonator in there and a respectable size piping then you should be ok.
But I wouldn't rule out a bad exhaust just.
This is the eastcoast. unfortunately.

Ok sorry guys .... ist an '04 ecotec 5spd I'm running a Pacesetter 4into1 header Magnaflow cat 14 inch res duel mufflers and its all 2 1/2 inch pipe thats was baddly done and will be replaced this weekend. I'm just hoping it still doesn't sound like a bumblebee after the new pipeing is put on.
Any thoughts guys?

try another shop lmao
try a bigger resonator. maybe 22 inches

Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!
I had a 28 inch one but it wouldn't fit. And yeah I'm going to a different shop saturday to get it re-done.

2.25", definately. You probably just have to much area for the exhaust to tumble around in...

/\ /\ /\ Um no 2.50 inch

. Too much?

just about any canister style manifold will cause that sound w/o enough exhaust pressure........... the 'dual' setup could also be the problem. (my 'dual' setup I used to have, actually sucked air IN one pipe, while exhaust was leaving the other....... a low pressure area was created along the 'T' junction..... guess thats why they make 'Y' junctions)
I went from the dual setup, to a Vibrant cat back and muffler, and the 'buzzzz' went away....... *** from dual to single muffer, from canister to a more traditional style muffler ***

I think that's overkill, and probably what's making your car sound like that

You could always through a snail in the exhaust stream...that'll smooth it out

my thermal reasearch setup has at least a 20inch resonator on it, and is 2.25" has a nice meaty sound to it.
Header goes on this weekend!!!

Well again let me say this...
If I read correctly you have dual 2.5 exhaust all the way back..
Well,
NJ_Honda-Killa a.k.a Sexual Chocolate, has the same set up......
Rasp....
Even with your resonator, if you kept it 2.5" at the split, you're gonna get rasp and actually hurt performance because the exhaust isn't flowing as fast now.
Mathmatecally, yeha you want the pies 1/2 of 2.5 inches....which is way too tiny anyway.
But realistically, you want to drop it to 2". Although 2.25 would probably work for you.
Meantime, if you want ot up to a 18 inch resonator do that.
Finally, if you find a good shop let us know.
I'm tired of all these crappy exhaust places as well.

I noticed a little noise when I first installed my header, but found out it was because of the exhaust pulsing against the inside of the tubing of the header. Its been a little over a year now since the install, and the noise isn't even noticable anymore. Thats probably due to carbon build-up. I don't know what is wrong with the guy at the exhaust shop you went to. I have a 31" Magnaflow Magnapack directly after my cat, and it fit in there perfectly.
The mufflers I have are of the "normal" type not those canister type cause all they are is a glass pack basicly. Anyway last night I climbed under the car and took a look at the flex pipe and I'm fairly sure the bumblebee sound is being made by how much tension is on the pipe what with no hanger and all that weight pulling it down then when you hit the gas hard it starts to pull it apart and thats when the ugly bumblebee shows up. So
I'm thinking that the pacesetter header has that ball joint on it right? Well aren't they supposed to be spring loaded to allow movement? Mines not it bolted tightly together
and then has a piece of braided flex pipe. Do I need that flex pipe? Cause if the ball joint can absorb the movement then that would eliminate the braided piece and the hanging down problem as well. Does anyone have it set up like this? cause when you look at the Pacesetter design it removes the factory flex point at the manifold and doesn't give you a flex section but rather an extension piece that feeds into the factory
pipeing and all there is is that ball joint. I'm thinking I may not need that flex joint. Does anyone know about if the Pacesetter's ball joint allows enough movement and if so does this work?

RK headder, 2.5" pieping back to a dynomax superturbo muffler... and it still sounded like a bee, i added a resonator and it sounded great.... try a resonator.,

yep a header makes it louder. A resonator would take away alot of the higher pitched "raspyness" leaving it sound deeper.

I have 2.5" piping on my exhaust, no resonator, Magnaflow cat, 4-2-1 header, and my exhaust doesn't sound like that. Mine doesn't sound like a bumble bee, fart box, or a coffee can. At idle it has a nice hum to it, but not really obnoxious or anything, and when I stretch the motor's legs a little, it just flat out sounds like it's p*ssed off. THen there's the cackle I get when I let up on the trrottle between shifts. Kinda sounds like it's turbo'd.
Its my pipe work. All the pipe works fault. Its getting replaced saturday but thanks everyone for your help.
Semper Fi SAINT. May you rest in peace.
glad you got it narrowed down.

/\ /\ /\ Thanks it turns out that its cause the flex pipe they put it in. When it streches it leaks and sounds like crap. But because the Pacesetter header has that ball joint on it I don't need the flex so this will also fix the hanging down problem.

If your not going to be using a flex pipe, I would suggest getting at least the top motor mount insert from RK Sport, to minimize engine movement and the chance of breaking the welds on the header. The ball-joint on the header allows for movement, but not very much.
/\ /\ /\ Cool man thanks !! I planed on ordering the lower dog bone style mount for the car cause thats what keeps the engine from rocking back and forth. I've checked tho and it doesn't seem that the ECO engine rocks very much. And I'm gonna spring load the ball joint so it shouldn't be a problem. But deff thank you.
Semper Fi SAINT. May you rest in peace.
the stock eco upper mount sucks ass , it tends to rip pretty easy
if your car is a 5spd id recomend getting the trans mounts also , youll notice a big differnce is the way the car shifts and corners with the mounts also
but i do have friend local that have no mounts and havent had any problems
/\ /\ /\ Car is a 5 spd so I guess I'll be replaceing all the mounts eventualy. hey who besides RK Sport ( TOO EXPENSIVE ) sells them? Cause I will take your advice and replace them all. But I'm glad to know I wont hurt anything till I'm able to get them.
Thanks much 97cavie. Anything else I should be aware of of ?
